Saving games, and other questions...

1) Is there anyway to save the game any time I want? Its annoying to have to get to an autosave before I can quit the game- plus I'd like to save multiple points before making a major decision like buying a new ship..

2)Is there any benefit of a fighter over a freightor, if they both have the same relative gun space/armor? I heard that they run out of power fast, but haven't been able to confirm this. I'm several hours into the main game and am wondering if I should go for a nice light fighter or a big old cargo ship that could probably net me lots of cash with trade runs with its huge cargo space..

Thanks!

1. you can only save when you're docked.

Though in the SP campaign, you save pretty much after each major battle....

Alright. I asked becasue I loaded up an older mission after buying a ship to see if I could go back, but as soon as it loaded it overwrote by autosave, so I was 50 minutes back.

How about #2?
