Radioactive symbol

What does it mean when you are flying through a system and the radioactive symbol pops up? I expected to be taking damage or something, but that didn't happen. Does it maybe affect food cargo or something like that? I think this was in Tau-29. Also, no jumping on me for pirating, since I have alreayd explained previously that I am playing the PR.

I think you eventually start to lose your hull since the radiation eats it away, and you'll soon die.

I flew through for a while and nothing happened. I was staring at my shield and hulls figuring they would move, but they did not. Maybe there are different levels of radiation and the I was just in minor radiation.

You are right, you have to get closer to take damage...

So you are saying that there is a source for the radiation and that as I approach it , it will then start to do damage? I guess for now the radiation symbol is warning me that there is radation somewhere nearby.

The radiation eats your hull, but it is at different levels of intensity at different places. Usually it eats your hull slowly, so that it takes a minute or more to lose one square in your red bar, other times it's fast and you can lose a square in a few seconds. Your goodies can get damaged too, which is more important since nanobots don't fix them. I'm not certain but it seemed to me that if I kept my hull up my weapons didn't get hurt. The time that the radiation really messed me up, it took away 3/4 of my hull, and everything on my ship was halfway ruined when I landed.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!
