press "V" for a view of your rear, if your fighter has rear facing turrets it comes in handy as well.

Also there are arrows indicating the directions of the enimies, and if they are far way, the arrows will fade away.

And IIRC you can press "V" by default to look behind you (In the demo). It should be somewhere in the control options. I always hit it on accident when I'm tractoring items.

It's not very comfortable flying forward while looking back.

There is alot of work should be done before releasing game. I've been disappointed by the demo. It's all about fighting only. Even Privateer2 were much better.
Amen.

A radar was in the game but it was removed because it was seen to be of little use in Freelancer combat, and after playing the game I can see why. But then again I hardly ever use the radar in any space combat games, so it's probably more a personal preference on my part.

But trust me the game does not need any more work in this area, the radar WAS removed on purpose.

The only thing I can find similar to long range sensors is the universe map zoom in feature.

To me it does have a radar and I use it a lot! The box on the bottom left side of your cockpit shows a list of the items your ship's radar has detected, such as rogues will be red letters and it will show you the distance they are from you. White lettered items are things you can tactor into your cargo hold. And the arrows will show you the direction the item is from your ship. What esle would you want a radar to show you? It really works better than the old radars you saw in Privateer and WC games. The interface in Freelancer was confusing for me at first..but the more I play it...the more it makes sense and it does work extremely well. DA done a fantastic job with the interface!

Actually they had radars in there in tons of different ways. And you know what... The old stylish Elite Radar didn't give you a better overview, because you are fighting more bogeys than in Elite. Remember when the Thargoids pumped oud their little small ships at you... The radar was useless, because you couldn't track any single target...

So in the end they decided agains using the screen real-estate for a radar. and instead using the arrows that fade with distance....

I think the attitude to have when approaching the interface of FL is that you're going to use something _different_ - a new type of ship/pilot interaction. It adds to the general feeling of the game really - after playing for a long while the demo it's obvious that this is a new take all together.

the best radar i've sene in a space sim game was the one in xwing alliance, great for seeing where the enemy was
the one in starlancer was possibly the most useless thing i've ever seen, probably why they didn't bother trying to put one in fl

ah but the radar on elite / frontier was superb at telling you where an enemy was at any given time.... far better than X-Wing's dual scopes

FL doesnt need one tho cos of the screen pointers to shipping
