Tractor Beams.

Just a bit of a pet peeve.

Does anyone know why the Tractor beam fails so regularly? I can haul in loot perhaps twice, if I'm lucky 3 times before the "Tractor Beam Failure" warning sounds. This really sucks if you are 20+K from the nearest outpost and your last fight continued for a couple of thousand meters and there is loot everywhere.

Any insights ?

Only so much cargo room in the ship, and they do fill up. Also, nanobots and shield batteries have a limitation for each ship. Makes sense if you think about it, since if you could keep tractoring them in, you'll be indestructible, and that takes a bit of the thrill away in combat...

I had thought of that, but my cargo bays are always mostly empty when I get back to port. (because I can never tractor more than 1 or 2 items What can I say I'm picky about what I bring onto my ship so I tractor them 1 by 1) (btw tractoring everything does not change this ))

I hope the game manual will clear up some of this

Most of the loot that becomes jetsam is usually nanobots, batteries, countermeasure flares, and drone mines. If you have these already, then you won't be able to tractor in more. You'll get the "tractor beam failed" message even if it's only one item you're filled up with, but the other items will still get onboard.
