Played the demo , GREAT GAME

Okay now I played the demo too.
And I am fully satisfied, this a great game. Gives me the same feeling and atmosphere like "Provateer" did. And it has some new changes, which make it even more fantastic.

I was a big enemy of the mouse-thing. But well, its even better than playing it with a joystick. I am happy I bought myself a remote-mouse.

But what I dont understand, is that after so much producing time, why is non-space-graphic so usual??? Even in "Starlancer" the graphics of the people looked better.

All in all, I am happy, that I preorderd the game, and I cant wait until 7th of march, when my game is brought to me, right from USA!!!

Played it for the first time last night (enduring that EZCrap thing in the process).

Once I headed out into space and was thrown into battle, I was amazed at how instinctive the mouse controls were ! I'm 99.9999% advocate of 'pilot' controls, ie up means nose down etc., but it just seemed to , well, work.

I liked what I saw on my 21" monitor with Radeon 9000 pro graphics card pumping out poly's

The scenes with charactors in Starlancer was CGI (prerendered movies). In Freelancer it's the ingame engine that renders the charactors realtime, therefore not quite the quality of its CGI counterparts. The reason for this is, that in freelancer there is, maybe 100-500(?) diffent scenes which you interact with npc's, and that would require ALOT of HDD/CD space...

there you have it

I understand that, but after so much time to develop this game, I could
expect better graphics. The space-graphics are all ok, but the graphic on the station and planets are ugly. If there are so many NPC that cant be rendered, I undestand it, but than DA should have build or bought just an engine which is able to do so and make better graphics.

I wouldn't call the graphics ugly. :-) They're pretty and immersive enough for me at least. Since the devs probably worked with the game all the time, you'd have to take away some development time from one part of the game to improve others, something people who complain about a game often forget. If you're going to complain, tell us what you don't care would work as good as it did as well.

Thanks for you input. I guess you never played Privateer? I like the in game look and feel of the graphics when on a base in Freelancer...makes it all smooth together with the space flight graphics and they are a huge leap over Privateer. Privateer 2 had in game movies of real actors when on the bases...but that did not make it a better game then Privateer. I have noticed a lot of little things in the graphics when on a base in Freelancer that really adds a lot to the feel of being there.

But atleast you did not let the graphics part keep you from enjoying your gaming experence with the demo of Freelancer. I think sometimes gamers will let the graphics part of a game make them not like it so much....they miss the important part of the game. The immersive feeling like your a part of the game's universe! The small attention to details in a game's graphics are more important to me than the quality.

Yes, the small details count!

Anyone stood on the launch pad on Manhattan and watched the elevators go up and down the outside of the buildings?

Its truly a great game. 2 of my frens got hooked....and they are not one who play priv 1 and 2 or those space sim games.

I dunno about you guys, but i really love the character graphics as well as the bars and planets. Sure, it all has some sort of a comic look, but so had Privateer. Hey, it's tradition.

who could ever forget, Privateer's ... blue hair ( i think that's what developers called him)

When it absolutely, positively needs to be ~~*BOOM*~~`(static)

First, the graphics of the planets and bars are doing the job.
But I am just surprised, that DA didnt spend more time of it.
Second, I guess you cant compare it to Privater 1. Privateer was a milestone.
The graphics were fantastic at that time. But if you would produce a game today, with the graphics of Privateer 1, you surely wont sell much copies.

The bars and planets... There is a lot to update there, and a lot of costs to improve on it... And it does the job...

Nice and still have room to improve, especially
the interactive video. (Or it's better in actual game)

The space scenery and audio is excellence.

I just need to know if the demo have time limits
because it ended when I was going to level 2?

The mouse control varies from diff type of mouse, just adjust
the sensitivity at options.

The first time it's hard to control but after practice it's easy.

It looks like ball mouse is better than optical, but dual optical I'm
not sure.

In fact privateer 2 actual able to fly with mouse, Freelancer is superb
and stable.

I wish it support feedback mouse but sad it does not.

Strange, i quite liked the graphics.

And after all, in the long run, it's not the graphics that count, it's the playability. You can make graphics top-notch, but if you forget to add the game in the progress, it remains just a nice 3D presentation and that's all.
