Actually it doesn't.

What don't you like about it? Too simple? Too complicated? Worried you're going to get carpal tunnel? Details...we need em before we can dicuss this.

Mouse-flying is the best decision for the kind of freedom in flight. u can turn everyway u want and quite fast too. oh... and dont forget about aiming.

Okee dokey.

I generally use a large monitor and the mouse set to move quickly, in so doing I pick up the mouse and skim it across the mouse mat. This gets me all confused as to where the cursor is on the screen and where the ship is going. I also don't move my hand much when moving the mouse in normal Windows mode and in the lazier games like RTS and RPGs, I just move the mouse with my fingers. If you have to move the mouse all over the screen for minutes on end chasing some bad guys then it becomes a real pain (and literally too).

If I desensitise the mouse it doesn't move around so much and I can't keep up with the dad guys (or good guys - depends on how I'm feeling).

In all WC and Privateer games I used to hang on the joystick and it's throttle constantly adjusting the speed. Without a throttle I can't work out where the velocity is set. I therefore keep bumbing in to things, like missiles!

The right mouse button feels so unnatural it's hard to keep thinking I have to press it to shoot.

After only a short while of frantic movement and shooting I can feel my wrist getting sore (I wonder if M$ will give me some compensation if I get RSI).

Why would it be such a big deal to have mouse and Joystick control? What possible advantage is there in leaving the joystick out. Fine, leave the mouse in and tell everyone it's a better control method but why on earth not have both?

... you know it's like the government telling me I can't have that 180mph motorbike and use it on the road. It's all down to choice and I choose a joystick, roll on BCM and Homeplanet.

Bloodhawk.

Why would a joystick stop you turning? At the end of the day it's an input device on a computer. I bet I could move a joystick driven cursor from one side of the screen to the other faster than with a mouse.

yay side to side, thats my other point precision aiming my friend. Why do you think u dont play shoot em ups with joysticks???? because u need to aim fast and accurate and a mouse is better suited for that

I see this thread becoming a mouse vs joystick debate, and we've had too many already, they just provoke anger and flaming. Andi, this isn't because you don't like the mouse interface, you're entitled to your opinion and feelings about that, I just want to eliminate a potential flame-a-thon. So, "click"

I can understand why some people find that mouse control suits them fine. I know a lot of people who play racing sims with joysticks and game pads, heck most games comsoles only have a gamepad attached for all sorts of games. I have a joystick and I want to use it, why will they not add a little bit of code in to read the joystick port? Whats the big deal if the mouse is so wonderful people will use it, but I'd like to use a joystick. How many years have they been working on this, what's the great plan that would be ruined if FL supported a Joystick? I even had a M$ Joystick.

Is it so much trouble?
