Mundane Dialogue?

Alright.. my only gripe with the demo is the absolutely horrible dialogue.. everyone says the exact same thing..

Got any action for me?

Hello.. are you new here?

Yup..

Well we don't own this place but we have an understanding with those that do, and i have know a rumor? wanna hear it..

Lay it on me..

(RUMOR DISPLAYED)

That is good to know...

wow it is absolutely driving me bonkers to the point where i don't want to talk to anyone..

anyone know if this is just a demo thing or is the final like this too? (I'm amazed there haven't been more complaints about this)

hit esc, you skip the dialogue

Does that kinof defeat the whole purpose even talking to them though? they should just have a text email system where they email you the rumors..

its one of those things that really takes away from the immersion of a game like this.. at least give them some personality..

the worst part is they actually recorded all of the characters saying the same thing.. all the males, all the female voices. Its like they only wanted to pay a writer for writing 1 line of dialogue.. take Trent for example His replies to "Are you new" are varied and kindof give him a personality..

Its too bad too because i think the major character dialogue isn't too bad (Jinu and King)

By hitting ESC you just kump over the voice-acting.... If they had a greater varity there, it would have driven costs for acting and implementing through the roof.

I think it works pretty well, all things considered. Only problem is that some transitions aren't very smooth.

I'm hoping this is only a problem with the demo... surely they could have come up with more varied responses for the full game? We're spanning how many star systems and yet people all talk the same?! Perhaps there's some kind of hive-mind thing going on :-)

Well they are all Human not alien

Fluffle Master..

Well it is a demo. It is meant to only give you a taste.

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.

And if it would be in the full I would be really pissed about it ...
maybe some of the betas can say something about it.

If you dont like the dialogues, press ESC.
Thats where its for

Post Mon Feb 24, 2003 1:03 am

It's the same in the full version. After the first 20 minutes, you are pretty much going to want to skip every transition/dialog by hitting the escape key. Even in the menu's to do trades and stuff, it gets too anoying to watch the view pan before the screen comes up, so you'll just hit esc.

It's pretty lame, but not a game killer. You just ignore it. But as for it making the game cost too much to add more dialog, come on. There are games with literally hundreds of lines of spoken text. They couldn't afford 20 more, to make it slightly less inane?

"It's pretty lame but not a game killer..."

I disagree. I complained about it in my "space is... empty" post and with good reason. It's TERRIBLE. Extremely lame. If the actuall game is like that I tend to agree with the origianl poster, I will not feel like talking to people only to hear one of three different voice-actors say the same thing 200 times.

It also demonstrates a broader lack of attention to detail and a dwendling budget that probably eats into other aspects of the game as well. VERY dissapointing and ominous if you ask me.

Am I still gonna buy this game, yes, probably. But lets face it, I dont think its turning out ot be what most of us expected.
