Fighting Effectively

I'm playing the demo and hoping for some tips on fighting with a bit more finesse.

I upgraded to the freighter, and loaded it with turrets. In order to take advantage of the other firing arcs, I need to use the turret view, but that leaves my freighter just lumbering along in a straight line. I don't feel like I have the reflexes to switch back and forth between the main view and the turret view continiously ... I'm just too old for that kind of button pushing.

Anyone find some techniques that work well without it becoming a button-mash fest?

You could buy a fighter.......

If you attack enemies while flying I believe any turrets that can hit your target will fire.

Don't bother maneuvering. It won't help, and if you stick with freighters in the full version, the stronger ones are ESPECIALLY hard to fly. I just picked up a Rheinland Humpback tonight, and that thing turns VERY slow. It takes ten seconds at least just to turn around once!

I've been playing with a Rhino for about 6 odd hours today and I found it to be one of the more devestating ships in New York.
You can fly it in a straight line and ward of attackers quite easily. The trick is not to stick with the one target, only fire at those in close range particularly those sitting at your 6 O'clock . They are just as vulnerable as you are in that position but you have the advantage of having more fire power and a stronger hull, so it's basically just a pissing contest in which the cards are stacked in your favour.

When their hull strength gets to low they will dive away, that leaves you free to move on to your next target. Don't worry about the one diving away he will line up for another bite eventually.

from the limited ships in the demo the freighter can be quite good, has a lot of firepower and its maneuvarability isn't too bad with a lot of buner useage, perfer the fighter you start with though, the trick is just to get behind whatever your chasing and hammer away, i aim at the engines if i'm close enough in the hope that actually does something specific, if they're a turreted ship just bounce around and the turrets aren't a problem
one thing i will say for this control system (though joy should be useable in place of mouse for the same role) is that its a hell of a lot easier to take out turreted ships with the moveable guns

Strafing when u have several rogues coming head on straight at u all their guns blazing definitely helps too But u'd probably need a fighter to do that effectively

what i like doing in a fighter, is to get behind one of them and pound away with my cannons, once there shield drops they usualy hit there brakes turn to face me and hit there burners, (its quite effective for getting out of my fireing arc), so what i do is as they come towards me i fire a couple of javlin missiles right into there face KAABOOOMM!!
