Is Mouselook possible?

When flying past some cool ship or something, I'd like to be able to pan my view without moving my ship. I keep wanting to look at something and then I end up ramming my ship into some poor soul.

I don't see a mouselook in the control menu. I thought perhaps it might be possible to mouselook by holding down the alt-key or some-such, but this doesn't seem to work.

Is there something I'm missing? The game would feel a bit less like a space sim on rails if I could look around a bit.

You can use the engine kill command for this purpose (press "Z" or "Y", depending on your keyboard layout). When you do so, your ship will continue to move into the last direction you were heading while you can turn around your ship freely and by this doing a "visual inspection flyby" without ruining someone elses paintjob.

EDIT: in order to being able to kill the engines you need to be in freeflight mode (press escape or the onscreen control left of "go to" ).

You can use the turrets, "H" key.

Yes, that works too, but you can take a closer look with 1st person view and engine kill flyby

Thanks. I will add another stupid question to this thread, rather than clutter up the board.....

Is there any way to see how much I paid for cargo? If I'm hauling around stuff for a while, it's not that easy to remember where I purchased it from and it's just nice to do the math on how much profit I made in the transaction.

When you go to your inventory you can select the cargo and then click on "trade routes". You get a list that will show you how much the particular commodity is worth at different places. I don't know yet if you only get the info of places you visited in the system that you are in, or if it shows the prices of all the places you visited throughout the Sirius Sector.

It shows the prices from all the places you have ever visited. I use it all the time, just wish there was a way to look at lists like that for items you don't actually have. Maybe just for the things that you've seen, so you know they exist. Maybe that's in there, but I haven't seen it.

I was thinking about the same thing Kahar.
That would come in handy.
