gift from Microsoft?!?!

gift from Microsoft?!?!

I'm a newbie to the forums, but have been checking out TLR for about a year on and off now.

The strangest thing happened to me today. I opened up my mailbox and there was a package, from of all places, Microsoft. Inside it, stranger still, was a preview copy of Freelancer.

I'm completely taken back. Maybe I won some sort of contest that I can't remember entering. Are they sending these things out to everyone? Oh well, I guess fortuna smiled on me today. I suppose I'll load this sucker up and check out the eye candy. Too bad my road trip starts tomorrow.

If I were you, I wouldn't install it. I know bad things about the preview copy, including that it sends information to Microsoft and it installs permanent spyware, also there has been some reports about it causing a failure in the Windows Startup procedure.

You should send it to me and I will bur...err, "fix" your CD, then send it back with a fixed non-MS corrupted CD.

BTW, I hope you aren't taking me seriously...lol!

Sounds like a BS thread. How could you not know how you got it?

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.

What? I don't start threads like these!

That's BS & you know it ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Maybe we'll know for sure if he can give us some tit-bits on what is going on in-game since many of us here have played the game.

Back when the Starlancer preview beta came out, even though my name was never listed, I still received a copy in the mail.

My two cents.

Been playing it some, and have been having a grand old time. I got up to level 4, and have been going off on my own a bit, exploring, rather than just playing the plot missions. I only managed to explore 2 systems so far, Manhattan and Colorado, but I will check out the rest of Liberty space the next chance I get.

The reason I was surprised to get it in the mail was that I entered the Microsoft, Lancer Reactor, and Gamers Click giveaways. I was not on the Microsoft or TLR winners lists. The Gamers Click giveaway ended, saying that all winners had been notified. I was never notified.

Therefore, I presume that I must have either won the Gamers Click contest but was never notified, or Microsoft made a colossal mistake and realized that they just *had* to send me a copy. This kinda stuff *never* happens to me.

Not, of course, that I mind. This will keep me busy until Freelancer and MOO3 are actually released.

Oh, and the graphics are... simply... amazing.

Kewl. Do you run a gaming site? Or maybe you won one of the older contests like the Planet Naming one.

OK, now I see. I was looking through the old news archives, and it appears that I had won second prize in the planet naming contest. I guess I can look forward to meeting myself as an NPC in the game, then.

Cool! I just wish I would have won it
