.wav?!

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

.wav?!

The wav is as old as windows itself. It's the bulkiest of the formats arround! Why, in the name of god, DA chose wav? Why not mp3? Why not wma?

Also, am I seeing illusions or there really is "Freelancer Sneak Preview Contest, Sign Up in 4 Days!" sign above the forums?

They said at DA I think that they couldn't use mp3 for some reason. I don't remember why, perhaps EB or Boscoe can refresh our memory. As for the sneak preview contest... I'm seeing it too. I don't know why, maybe Bargib made a script to automatically put it up on a certain day of the month and change it to the next pic every day, and it's cycling again. Guess he is lazy

Yeah... dunno why that script triggered again - shouldn't had... ?!?? It's gone now!

.wav requires less proccessing power because it's not as compressed as .mp3, and it also sounds better. Size isn't really an issue, seeing as how they already fit Freelancer onto a single CD.

Better quality?

To Bagrib: *whispers* I see dead scripts...

Yes, .wav files are big because they aren't compressed like .mp3 files, but .mp3 is almost lossless conversion so it isn't really an issue. There's nothing particularly wrong with .wav other than their size, and a lot of games are still using them to lower proccessor overhead, especially ones with lots of sound like FL - though it seems like DA had other reasons to use the .wav format.

Does it matter as long as the game works, fl only uses like 1gb of space which is still quite small by today's standards.
