Well...Privateer 2..or should I call it like it was..."I Spy" in space? I did finish the story line...but it never had the sense of adventure and the rich story line of Privateer. When you finished Privateer..you had this absolutely awesome alien gun...the Seltek gun. That was one piece of kick butt weapon! Then they took that great weapon away in Righteous Fire..but atleast replaced it with some pretty effective guns and equipment. In my opinion..Freelancer will carry on the "spirit " of Privateer...were PV2 failed.
You probably couldn't get your Joystick to work because it is a Digital joystick. eg. Sidewinders and most modern sticks the last 3-4 years. Would that be correct?
Yes, that's correct and i knew that digital joysticks wouldn't work in true DOS mode. But i was hoping it would at least work in a DOS box running in Windows. But it didn't.

Sadley i never played privateer 1 and never will, but i did play p2.It was fantastick,to me it had that feeling of beeing Lev Aris.for 6 weeks i lived and breathed p2.So if you poeple are telling me p1 was better, im a bit pissed off i missed it. Ijust hope fl is everything i hope it will be ,and more.
I didn't get ahold of Priv1 until after I played WC3 and 4. It was kind of a drag to go to worse resolution so I didn't enjoy Priv1 as much as a lot of guys. I got Priv2 when it was brand new and I loved it. Priv2 was a little easier for me to get into. If I would have played Priv1 right after WC2 then I bet I would have liked it much more. FL seems to be like Priv1 in some ways and Priv2 in other ways. Example: Priv1 had a lot more places to land than Priv2, and a lot more ship items. Priv2 had more ships you could buy and I liked it's combat better.

Ah..come on Striker
You do not put a name on a game like "Privateer2 " and expect the players and fans of Privateer to think it is not a sequel. The vast majority of Privateer fans bought Privateer2 thinking it was going to be a sequel and much improved version of Privateer. I have never said it was not a good game....I said it was not up to par with Privateer or a worthy sequel. I do agree with you....it was misnamed.

I agree totally with Eraser when he says that Priv2 was not all that it could have been. Privateer is the greatest game that I have ever had the pleasure of playing and I have been waiting for sooo many years for the REAL Privateer 2 to come out...
At long last, I think it may have.
I am still a Privateer.

Privateer 2 Patch
Look at the last one on the page. I haven't tried it, but I've heard it works.
Stormtrooper Tactics 101: Okay class, repeat after me. "There he is! Blast em!" Very good.

Hello everyone,
I hope you do not mind me getting in on this one. For my first post.
A small tidbit of myown history. I have followed Chris and Erin Roberts work from their very early days. Pre-Origin. One thing they have proven is that they provide very high quality entertainment.
P1 was IMHO one of the best games ever for space sim fans. I did like P2 and agree that it should have been named differently. After all it was a UK based game and not really linked with Chris or Erin. Although it held some excellent gameplay and I too loved how you had to discover the story.
P1 was the best of the best at the time, WC1-4 were also great titles and set some of the begining graphics standards that we have come to expect from games of today. The stories are what had kept me coming back. The first time I saw a Kilrathi rip the heart out of a human really infuriated me. I thought that discovery was really cool, that a game story could evoke an emotional response out of me like a good book or a movie.
Freespace and FS2 were very righteous games in their own right within the genre of space flight sim. Great games. FS2 does still have good GFx.
But Privateer really hooked me and showed me what computer gaming was capable of. Graphics are only 1/5 of what it takes to become a killer game. Game play, Sound, Story and FUN. The latter being very hard to quantify as it is different for all of us but no less important. Privateer 1&2 were great stories and the delivery mechanism was excellent. I think game play was better with P1 but P2 had better graphics they both were freeform games and existed on my hard drives till I couldn't play them anymore. They were both FUN.
My hope is that FL will fill this void I have had for so many years. I am looking forward to the MP side of this game. I have been watching this game develop from its begining and waiting am patiently. I was not fortunate enough to beta test it. Maybe next time. BTW I think the ideal PC game length of play time is 30-40 hours. But the press has a hard time waiting 5 years or so on a big project, not to mention the Corporations overall cost to produce such an animal in todays give it to me now world.
I say give em time to make it like games used to be. Something to remember.

Ok, I do stand corrected. I loaded up P2 this morning and checked it out. Erin was the design director. That probably explains why the story line and the delivery of it was very good. It just didn't feel like Privateer and of course a few nasty bugs early on, but they were more of a hinderance than a problem or playability issues. P2 just should have been named something different like Space Mafia LOL.
On the other hand I was really into the WC series. Gotta love killin those nasty kitties! I had several defining moments with that series. Like I have mentioned before is both FS games were great games but some how I felt they were lacking. I dunno, both to me just didn't have the epic feel to the story or the feeling of being driven. The game play and graphics were outstanding and are stil good by todays standards.
Privateer was the first game where I went WOW, I can play how I want? This is gonna be great! And it was too, as well as it seems there are many of us like that here. So now we all are waiting uncomfortably in anticipation on what stands to be a good candidate for game of the year. I know that with Chris and Erin on the team that the game will be FUN! Chris and Erin know and have known that games are all about you and the choices that you make.
One of my favorite scenes in P2 was the hospital scene, a very memorable moment in the game. Yes the getting lucky scene was excellent too.
