Beta Quirks

I was playing and the game crashed, so I rebooted and loaded up the autosave. When it came up I noticed that my cruise disruptor launcher had 80,000 rounds. At first I was a little upset that my savegame was corrupted but I went on and landed. I was able to sell all the rounds and then I had $72 million. This was cool but I should have only sold back a few of the rounds at a time. I went to the bar and bribed some guy to boost my reputation. He wanted $125,000 so I paid it, that was chump change now. Then I looked at my personal info and there was a problem. I must have leveled up after getting all that money so the game added a few thousand bucks to $72 million and made that my next level up amount. The problem was I just spent a big chunk and now I needed more than $125,000 to get to the next level. So I reloaded and did a few missions to get that next level. Now I'm at a point where I need to complete a mission to get the next level so I hope I can spend all my money now.

That is one of the issues tracked down in the Beta program... happens quite seldom though... and there might be more than the charges affected, so I would reload an uncorrupted safegame...

I'm not complaining, it just was kind of funny. As soon as I get ahold of the real game I'm going to load it and start over anyway.

By the way. I'm assuming that even though I have a beta the NDA doesn't apply to me because I didn't sign one. Or was it stashed in the fine print of the liscensing agreement I agreed to when I installed the beta? I don't want Bill Gate's lawyers to show up at my place and sue me for giving stuff away.

Good question - I don't have it, so I do not know!

Well if we're discussing the PR beta, there is no NDA.

The PR beta (v1196) was distributed to retailers with nothing more than the instruction packet and the disk. No additional information was given to the retailers other than it was expressly for store employee use only (though it seems plenty of store have broken that rule - the disk was never intended as a gift for pre-orders).

Actually when you think about it, an NDA on the PR beta would be counter productive. After all, the whole point of it is that MS wants store employees talking about the game, giving it glowing personal reviews and whatnot. Therefore there's absolutely no NDA regarding the PR beta.

However, the whole deal with non game-retailers having copies of the beta is questionable. Quite frankly I'm rather surprised MS distributed so many copies of the beta - in some cases as many as ten per store (though I'm sure MS dealed only with corporate and did not decide on the distribution to individual stores). They did a similar release with Mechwarrior Mercenaries, but in that case there were only about 1 or 2 copies per store, enough that the beta was sufficiently contained. Though I suppose that is why they built in that Mission 10 "bug."

Although there is no NDA for the leaked betas i must strongly ask you to keep special findings and story elements for yourself or in the spoiler forum. I didn't wait that long for this game to let it all be spoiled by someone who just babbles away without thinking first. Thank you very much.

Bill Gates lawyers usually "just buy you out"....didn't you ever see him on the Simpsons?

Don't worry, Lev. I'm not planning on giving away any plot goodies.
