FL Reviews

I guess the final game reviews will start to roll in pretty soon. Does anyone know when the media get their final versions of the game to review?

Also, is TLR planning to keep a running total to get an average review score? I know (most) of us will be buying it anyway but it would be interesting to see.

I think the game will do well in reviews. I've read dozens of previews, and no one has had anything negitive to say about the game except for the damned joystick issue - which seems to be mentioned in every preview I've seen so far, but they all say the mouse flight system works great, so I don't think that there will be anything negitive. The system requirements are not too heavy, it's got open ended game play, replayability, a huge game world, multiplayer... Need I say more.

In fact, I'm so confident that this game is going to be great, that I will end my 22 years of computer gaming with this game if I am disappointed with it at all! Now that's dedication!

Well said PCHolt.
I only fear that the reviews will state FL graphics as old.
But if they reviewers are good, they will see past that.
After all those Unreal, Splinter Cell like grahics, FL can look a bit less, but hey...gameplay counts !

What I've read, the graphics have received good remarks for the most part. I think that could only be considered old if you compare them to games like Unreal 2, Doom III and some of the other FPS games. Space sims don't generally use a lot of textures and high end graphics. Space is ugly and dark, they spice it up as much as they can, but you can only do so much.

If you're referring to the cartoony looking cut-scenes and planet/base interiors, then, yes, the graphics are definately dated, but the majority of the game is played in space, so I think it would be excusable to overlook this.

From reading the reviews from PR players here and previews on many sites.. I believe the game reviews will average about 9.2 on a 10 point scale from the different game sites.. only because the graphics will be in the 8 catagory.

I think this game will be excellent. I can not wait to escape from reality again and be engrossed in a "choose your own adventure" novel.

I agree with you dredloch and others about the impact of graphics on a game like Freelancer. Great graphics do not allways = great game. Point in being...Privateer...while the graphics are really behind times...the game play blows a lot of today's games away! Even if the graphics only equaled Tachyon's...I would still feel the same excitment over playing Freelancer! You can have a really sharp looking car, but if the engine is a lousy non turbo 4 banger...you only have a sharp looking piece of junk.

At the time of Privateer's release, the graphics were considerably better than a lot of computers could handle. It was Origin's "syndrome" to release games like that such as "Strike Commander" which ran sluggishly on even top end computers at its release.

i don't think graphics will count for that much, lately PcGamer has been reviewing these civilaztion building / war game that basically have no graphics and they have been giving them high 90s based almost entirly on gameplay, from what i ve read and seen i think FL will do well
