Ships and SHip replacements

OKay i am going to voice my concerns right now (flame away if you wish)

What is up with the freelancer ships they are the most Butt ugly backwards things i have seen. it's not gonna stop me from playing however but it would increase my enjoyment by having and ever slick aero-dynamic fighter than somthing that looks like it's droped off a leaper.

That being said and done .. has anyone riped apart the beta and seen weather or not is posiable to replace the shpis with custom models?

I know but they are trying to go for look that is not used. Most of the good looking ships are already used and use all over and with slight varation. The look would be unque to Freelancer and refeshing.

Yah, many ships are not very aerodynamic looking and some are down right ugly (like the Britonia "Cockroach" freighter). However, I think it is great that each system's ships have a unique look.

No air resistance in space so shape shouldn't matter. However shields would likely radiate in a globe central point OR follow the surface of some conductive surface. Solid thick forms should be more easily covered by a shield than something with multiple surfaces angles..... just a brain bubble bursting the the surface .....

They're so "ugly" because there's no need to be aerodynamic in space

What about landing on a planet? Since you pretty much do need to be aerodynamic to do that, the ships would burn in the atmosphere and land like a thump on the ground.

Actually the docking ring acts as a "hole" in the atmosphere (that's a really bad analogy) to prevent just that. All the ships are pretty much large bricks when it comes to reentry aerodynamics

Ahh sweet, so they already have that planned out! You just made my day

i think the blockyness of some ships is good, it makes them look sturdily built
