Ship speeds (I''m really confused now!!!)

Hey, I am a bit confused with ship speeds. Can someone please tell me that there are or are not different top end speeds. Because lets just say if you are in a fight and your ship has taken a heavy beatting, How do you escape, if the other ships can do the same speed as you? Can someone please advise, I need to know!!!

There is no diffrence in top speeds. They are the same for all crafts in FL.

There is a diffrence in accelration depending on what craft you fly and the level of thrusters you have on that craft. So you can accelrate faster and reach that top speed faster. It also effects how tight you turn and excute other manuvers.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

True true...

Top speed is the same for all playable wessels, but you can make the difference with thrusters... Then you can achieve higher speeds than pursuers etc.

I worried about this at first´due to freighters and small figthers having same top speed, but we all know how much you actually use thrusters.. Always..

And with rechargebel thrusters its gonna be just fine.. I hope

The better the thrusters you have the longer that they last...i.e. they use the thruster fuel more efficiently...this has been mentioned before in other topics but the speeds go as follows:

Normal Engines: 0 - 80
Thrusters: these put on an extra 120
Cruise Engines: 300

Trade Lanes: somewhere above 1000

So, do trusters work exactly like afterburners in Freespace? ie, you have a special afterburner gauge, which empties when you use the thruster, and slowly regenerates when you're flying normally , and it doesn't draw off energy from your guns or shields (as in Privateer / X) , right?

Sounds like it, give you a boost when you need to distance yourself from someone who is peeling the paint of your hull 8)

There are 3 levels of thrusters
Basic, Heavy & Advanced. As the guy said, each level used fuel more efficently and gives you higher top speed. The thruster energy regenerates over time (like FS/FS2)
