So... whats the verdict?

It looks like several of you all have played Freelancer now, at least beta or demo. And I am sure a lot of you have also played Pivateer. So what do you guys think about how it will compare to Privateer? Does it look like FL has the potential to out do the famed Privateer or will it never be as good?

I know it is still hard to tell for sure until the full game comes out but what are your opinions so far on how it will hold up to tradition?

That has good info but no one really talks about specific info concering comparing the two actual games.

For example, does it seems as free and open, is the trading comodity system as good or better, does the story drag you into the universe, do you still have that cool feeling of freedom to explore and do what you want to do or does it make you feel like your playing a book. That type of thing.

Hi Cyber Pack...

As a old Privateer fan...I have read a lot and done a lot of research on Freelancer. I have been keeping a close eye on it's developement from the first day it was announced in 1998. I have not got to play the demo or be lucky enough to be a beta tester...but from all the information I have gathered Freelancer will live up to and exceed your expectations. All the important things that made Privateer a great game are present in Freelancer. At last a game worthy of the spirit of Privatteer is on the horizon!

P.S. I still have the original box , 3 1/2" floppy discs , plus the expansion and all the paper stuff when I got Privateer when it was first released. So you know I am a hardcore Privateer fan.

Dang, what year was Privateer released? I got a copy a while back but not that long ago

Privateer was released in 1993. I also have a cd rom collector's edition I got a couple years or so after the original release. I also have a old P233 that is set up with the first edition of WIN 95, so I can multiboot to Dos 6.22. On occasion I play Privateer. Best game ever made in my opinion.

I remember getting the game for Christmas close to when it came out, and reading on the box that it needed a 486. I only had a 386 and thought it wouldn't work, but lo and behold, it booted up and played, and i was in heaven ever since that moment!
