Left-Handed Mouse Use

Does anyone here use a mouse left-handed?

Post Wed Feb 12, 2003 6:11 pm

No, why?

I can't imagine it to be harder than using a mouse right-handed.

I do when I have problems with my right shoulder, but that's not very often. I'm ambidextrous but not practised with my left so I'd have to practise for a while before I could use a mouse left-handed for games.

Should not be any different than using one right handed. Would only feel strange if your trying to use one left handed and your right handed.

My father's left handed, he uses his right hand for the mouse.

I don't know if the buttons are switched on the setup, if that will translate to the mouse in Freelancer, but I can see no issue playing with the mouse on the LHS.

Cool, then that would make it easy for Freelancer to support joystick as an OPTIONAL controller bound to attitude control.

Consider this: the interface, as it is designed, is complete, and doesn't need a joystick, right? Now consider what makes it complete: the mouse and keyboard. Now, stay with me here, what if you used your left hand for both mouse AND keyboard, and used your free right hand to control ship attitude via a JOYSTICK?

This idea is so elegant in its simplicity that it was no doubt overlooked due to that fact. I noticed in a lot of back-threads the word "impossible" thrown around repeatedly in reference to the joystick, mostly because people assumed using the joystick PRECLUDED using the mouse.

But we have two hands, no? Why not use the mouse exactly the way it was designed to be used, but WITH THE LEFT HAND! What do you guys think? Pretty clever, huh?

I think now that we've figured that out it is pretty easy to keep the game accessible to the masses -- the original reason for RIPPING OUT joystick support -- just bury the joystick option on some out-of-the-way menu that won't easily be found by skittish crossovers from The Sims who might bolt if confronted with scary words like "flight control" or "joystick" -- an option back in the back end somewhere to bind attitude control to a joystick, and nobody has to even know about it except those who go looking for it ... sweet, eh?

don't bother, i have had this idea for over a year and they don't want to even try it...
if it suits you, just use it
some people like point and click games, others wat something more

Freelancer is gold. That means they can't make changes, even if they wanted to.

Why don't we drop the Joystick-issue? The game went freakin' gold guys!
Forget about using your stick!

The only thing worse than a hit-and-run troll: a troll that sticks around...

Youd think these guys would get the idea after having thier last 5 posts locked. My advice for them is to go buy a game cube or xbox, and stop coming here to complain about something that nobody cares about but them.

The game is being marketed as a mouse/keyboard only game.
If you don't want this game, find another one, simple as that.
