mouse flight

In reading the great article at War Gamer, it was mentioned that when you are in "mouse flight", the holding down of the left mouse button you can make quick turns with your ship. It went on saying that while in this mode, the ship went in the direction of the mouse (down made the ship go down etc..)...

Does anyone know if there is an option to invert the mouse flight controll?

I apologize ahead if this has already been asked and I missed it.

No, there is no option to invert it.

Waitwaitwait, no "Invert mouse" option?

I never had problems with using a joystick instead of the mouse , but I've been used to playing FPS games with an inverted mouse ever since Jedi Knight.

That sort of sucks... I guess I'll get used to it though.

I can't say for sure but I think you will find it different to a FPS. The mouse is a free floating cursor, not a fixed aiming reticle. It's more akin to using Windows, not playing a FPS.

you have to think about it that way: you don't steer with your mouse, you steer with the cursor, and you only move the cursor with the mouse..

Yeah, I see it's because of the ingame menues / targeting / aiming thing, but I still believe that I'm going to take some time to get used to the fact that pushing the mouse forward = diving now.

I've played alot of games inverting my mouse... but come to think of it, I've played alot of games with outh inverting the mouse. It really depends on what feels right to the certain game. So I'm going to assume that it feels right with freelancer

Inverting your mouse is where pushing it away from you makes you go down, and pulling it torwards you makes you go up, right? Well, I don't think that would work well because the mouse interface has mistakenly been called like a FPS when it's really not, it's more like a real mouse driven interface, where you move the cursor around the screen like in Windows or in Starcraft. When you turn on mouseflight you move the cursor around but your ship follows...

And how is a roll performed? I love rolling left and right in space combat. It makes the action even more dynamic.

"In all likelihood you're going to die out there. We're all going to die out there, but none of us needs to be reminded of that fact. So you die, you never existed."

Sorry, there's no rolling.

Post Wed Feb 12, 2003 4:28 am

No rolling sort of makes sense, because that'd imply side boosters, and then there'd wind up being some sort of "spinning out of control" problem.

I think the mouse control is going to be strange, definetly, but I'm assuming that with the 3 years since work on FL began, theyd have tweaked it.

Sweet website, btw.

Huh? No rolling? Hm... that would be a major letdown. I mean rolling is not only dynamic but an essential part of combat (reducing the profile) and of general maneuvering in space (alligning to certain objects, strafe runs etc.). How could that possibly be missing? Rolling is something that really should be added with a later patch. Shouldn't be so hard to implent one might think.

Rolling would be nice but It's be kinda clunky to add to the control set-up, I mean it's not like you can twist your mouse.

I never use rolling anyway in any space games, anyway.. just gets me dizzy!

Does Trent ever sleep? Or is that only when YOU sleep?

While we're on the subject of controling your ship...any chance of someone giving us a map of the keys used in game? EG when not in mouse flight, what buttons move the ship, control speed etc?
