Advertising!

I dont know if this issue has been rasied yet but here wego.

Will FL be advertise fully like a few other X-Box/PC games that ms advertised. Because for one I am worried that FL will turn into another SL where SL was only known to a few people and anyone hardly ever heard of it. I hope that FL will be advertised on tv/posters etc before its release.

Well if thay dont advertise it it may cost them, some of my friends own pcs and thayv never heard of fl but thay do know of HALO x box? purley from tv adverts.

As the old saying goes... "advertising doesn't cost...it pays"
They would be wise to put a few ads on the tube.

PC games rarely get TV commercials, and I doubt FL will. It would be nice to see, but I think magazine ads, insane amount of previews, and worth of mouth will have to do. Thankfully it seems like a lot of people still remember it.

will I've already got two other people to buy the game when it comes out. Hopefully they'll buy it!

I definately will recommend the game to a friend of mine who is very fond of space games, but most likely hasn't heard of Freelancer yet. He likes space games, he likes Diablo 2 and he likes to play Diablo 2 with other people. Looks like Freelancer is the perfect match for him.

As said, I don't think that it is feasible for MS to advertize on TV. Unfortunately PC gaming is still a fairly select cadre of people, and most of us probably spend more time sitting in front of our PC playing games than watching the Electric God. That's one of the differences between PC gaming and console.

From what I've seen here at TLR and other places, MS has already started hitting the PC gamer mags with FL ads pretty hard. On-line, all the big review sites have got previews up from the PR copy.

So the word is out, now just spread the word. Get two of your friends on the fence to come down to our side, and the game will sell well.

"If this is what you want to do, you'll do it, no matter how long it takes..........and usually the longer it takes the more fun you've had!"

I think probably the thing that will have the biggest impact will be the online and magazine reviews. I've been lurking around a few magazine forums and there seems to be quite a bit of a buzz over freelancer. I will be very suprised if FL turns into a bargain bin flop like Starlancer.

"he likes Diablo 2 and he likes to play Diablo 2 with other people. "

heh heh heh i have a friend that is just like this and he is skeptical of FL, all of my friends are (it could also be that their interest in the game pales in comparision with mine), anyway im trying to get them obssessed but they won't even take the time to read a preview, the fools

Phoenix out
PS: i think that ads will appear on television, look at the warcraft commercials...

Perhaps FL will just be a sleeper hit like Homeworld and Half Life.

But right now, we're getting A LOT more traffic than we did when Starlancer was released. Much more ppl know about Freelancer.

Game companies try to use word of mouth to advertise their games.

heh i figure pc games can be advertised on pc..
recently i have seen ads for 'Zoo tycoon' and 'age of mythology' more often then i care to count.
as for other ads.. there have been ads for FL running in pcgamer and EGM and prolly others. IMO MS has a good track record for hyping products. and i don't think FL will just fall by the wayside

I agree EB, lately we have seen an incredible increase of info (previews, screenshots, vids, ads etc.) on Freelancer. Almost every site which has anything to do with gaming has had something to say about FL And that ought to be enough. However, I don't rule out that MS won't do a little bit more advertising these coming weeks (at least here in the Netherlands), because for instance when Age of Mythology came out here in the Netherlands, they had radio commercials for a while.

I think advertising on tv may also have something to do with its ERSB rating. I hope they will advertise here in Ireland because of recent susses liek The GetaWay which got billboard ads and tv ads. But then again thats a PS2 game. Hopefully MS will reilase FL's potiental.
