Whats the game play for FL?

What do you guys think the gameplay for FL is, usually the game makers give a number.

I would like to hear a average number (complete the mission fly around a little, have some fun)

I know if you wanted to do every single thing, it would take months probably.

Well, factoring in the single and multi player aspects plus mods ( remains to be seen how moddable this game is though ) , and the sheer replayibility of it all, if it's any good at all ( which I'm sure it is ) it will be many months before I even think of playing a different game.

Stinger played for around 250 hours in multiplayer ONLY and he hasnt found everything yet. I guess if you include the single player time as well, you should be able to find and finish everything in the game by around...280 or so hours. But of course, thats not including the time with just your friends exploring and having fun!

Stop using this stupid 250 hours :p
Thats like what? 2-3 weeks intensiv playing ... I want a game that I can play more like 2500 hours :p (which should be about the amount of time I spend for Starlancer )

I know. I also said:

A game like this in multiplayer can be played forever. But searching for the secrets in FL will take a lot of time. Playing with your friends and arranging battles, scenarios, etc can make FL's longevity loooong.

I know I know, just it seems that always this 250 hours are mentioned :p
Which should be by no mean even scratch the surface of the longlivity of Freelancer

250 hours is a very long time by today's game standards. Max Payne, Medal of Honor, RTCW, all took me (and most others) about 3-4 hours to complete.

The thing with Freelancer is you can make it as long as want, there will always be something to do and there is pleanty to see along the way.

But you look at it from a sp point of view,
it has a reason why I play 99% of the time mp.

250 hours roughly translate to 2 months of fairly intence playing, mainly just sleeping and working beside, and not having ANY social life besides FL.

Nearly no other games can't be played for that long if you take away the very popular online games. And we all hope that FL will be in the same league!

Hmmm maybe I am a freak but I played SL the first 2 months about 600 hours

Supporter and Founder of the :p for smilies Campange

We want :p

That 250 hours is just to see everything, well almot everything. That doesn't mean your going to be bored out of your mind after 250 hours of gameplay. Freelancer has a helluva lot more depth than Starlancer, a helluva lot more depth. So if you spent 600 hrs on Starlancer in 2 months, Freelancer should be able to keep your interest a fair bit longer than that.

BTW 600 hours in 2 months!!! You're frickin nuts!

There is no way to really judge how long it will take someone to complete the game. While there are only 13 plot-critical missions.. they all basically force you to take side missions. It all depends on what side missions you take and how many of them. Plan on it definitely taking more than a day's time to complete.

@Vyse

Does that mean there are a kind of subquests in FL?!?

I mean skripted missions beside the main plot? After all I read until now, there are just linear story-missions which have several mission objectives to complete, but no independent missions to choose or not to choose if you want to complete the storyline.

Post Tue Feb 11, 2003 3:05 pm

From what I've been made to understand, there are plenty of subquests. Some of the side jobs are pretty much required and therefor I would imagine that they would be scripted to some extent. In addition, certain missions that you can choose to do independently of the plot would be just simple tasks with cookie-cutter dialogue and objectives while others will be very involving and unique.

from what i understand, the reason subquests are required is so you can make enough money to upgrade your ship to handle the next part of the story line missions. They arent actually "required" but are necessary in order to survive the next part of the story line.
