Saved Games w/Demo

I've read on your forums that the Demo version may not be released until a day or two before the release date of March 4th, so this may be a mute point.

However, if you start playing the Demo version and save your game, could you transfer this saved game to the retail version once installed?

Do you know what the limitations of the Demo version are? No jump gates? Single System? Confined to one mission only? etc.

By the way, I've really enjoyed your site from the sidelines for about 4 months now. This is the most informative and premeire board for FL!

And for the record, I didn't think Privateer II was all that bad (Don't Ban Me )

Im pretty sure Digital Anvil aren't even sure of most of your question. They are probably deciding all that stuff as we speak.

There are no details as to what the demo is going to even contain. So, because of that, we cant say whether or not the saved games will be transferrable.

RESPECT lol, PRIVATEER 2 was excellent.

Post Tue Feb 11, 2003 6:34 pm

Privateer 1 was excellent....privateer 2 had beautiful cutscenes for its time, but it was no marvel of game play. sorry.... you are entitled to your opinion...here is mine.

Your right WingC3...Privateer2 had much better cutscenes and game play graphics..but the game play and story sucked. Better graphics do not allways mean a better game. Hopefully Freelancer will be a worthy game in the Privateer style. That is really how it will be compared by most old Privateer fans atleast.

I don't know, I thought Priv II was an excellent game. I loved the dark gloomy cutscenes and backstory. Nice sleek interfaces, new innovations, (email during a mission? Genius!) use of capships, things like that made Priv II earn a special place in my gaming heart. Sure, it wasn't truly a sequel to Privateer, but it was an awesome game in its own right. I think Privateer II would have been better named as Freelancer and Freelancer named Privateer II. JMO.

Priv 1 was the original, and such a very good original too. If you want to see my true feelings read my post on the Privateer vs Freelancer thread.

I actually really enjoyed Priv 2 though as well. I agree with the cutscenes vs gameplay comment, but I still loved it.

Speaking of which, I have never been able to get Priv II to play on Windows 98/ME/2000 machines. I haven't tried XP yet, and I know I used to run it on Win 95.

Priv II was one of the last DOS games, and every time I try, it always says "Privateer II requies full DOS version to install". though not sure how to put a full DOs on a machine with later Windows versions. Any advice?

Yeah you can run Priv II on win 98. Visit Origin's website for full details, but basically you have to configure your windows dos prompt to force it to run the programs as DOS.

Thanks, read through the material and seems like it might just be a little too much hassle. Think I'll dig out the old computer and get it running for kicks.

Yea, I had to pull out my old P200 shell of a machine, old 1Gb HDD, and a sound card and had Privateer II running in about an hour.

Priv2 did have a "Deluxe Edition" that was Direct X 5.0 compatible so that you did not have to mess with the pif files (dos config via windows). However, I tried purchasing the "Deluxe Edition" on eBay for about 4 months and gave up since they still went between $40-$60. Talk about keeping it's resale value

I did like the first Privateer very much.

The Priv2's story line was a little too hokey, like geared more towards a 13 year old vs an adult. I did enjoy the trading and the gameplay.

Later!

Just for S&Gs I checked eBay for the Deluxe Edition and found one three days left for $15.50 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=11047

Not that I would purchase one now, but about a year ago when trying to get both Privateer and Priv2 working w/XP was just tragic.

SInce when can you save in game demos anyway? Would be the first i run into.

I loved Privateer2. I even made myself a complete book with pricing statistics (including graphic representation) for each system. This way i could find out right away, what to buy and where to go with it. I could scan some pages and show em here if someone should be interested in how they looked like.

Ever since no other game sucked me in this well... but as of March that's gonna change for sure
