space traffic

just wondering what kind of traffic there is. is there quite a bit of it? i mean, other than your enemies, do you get to see carriers, and other ships flying around, going about there business?

In the core systems there is a LOT of traffic, in the edge worlds there is not so much.

Sounds good. That was one thing I always wanted in a similar game called Escape Velocity ( a Mac game, but playable on an emulator ). There were never many ships even in some of the more populated systems, making the world feel sort of static and dead.

tach, they always say a LOT of traffic, no mean to bedisrespectfull but, could u define alot as in, hundreds, thousands of ships at any given time??
thanks

I don't know, it's hard to give a concrete number because it varies. I could try to explain it, but it's really best for you to just see it for yourselves. Rest assured, it doesn't feel static or dead. There is quite a lot of activity going on

thanks tach!!

By "static" ( I think lifeless is a better word ) I meant 5 to 6 ships at most flying around not doing much other than a few naval fighters escorting traders to the system center where they could dock with a station or land at a planet.

Do the battleships ever move when not involved in a plot-critical mission or do they just sit there and look pretty?

Thanks for the reply. That's good news. Speaking of traffic, is there any battles between NPC's? If you fly into a sector, ot there any random battles going on? Thanks again.

On Traffic: I hardly think that traffic is always pack, because that would be stupid to do for a space sim. Im sure tach means a few ships flying between station/planet in a system. Only like 5-10 ships. If there where 100's it would mean that fight would probably break out and you'd be caught in the middle of it.

So...a bit like the original Elite then, a few cargo ships cruising along here and there? Cool.

Well despite being a lot more common, space flight is still space flight, and thus expensive, so you won't see thousands of ships streaming in and out of Manhattan like a bunch of highways.

In X- Beyond the Frontier, you had merchants, fighters, police and pirates flying around enough on thier own to make the world seem alive. So you do not need hundreds or thousands of ships flying around to make the world seem alive. It depends on how they do the A.I. And from what I have read..they have handled that extremely well in Freelancer.

sounds all nice to me. A few ships is enough to make things look real, espicially if they do believable actions.
