Freelancer vs Elite 4

Howdy first post and thought to stir up some drama.

First played Elite back on my commodore 64 way back in the old days and Elite II Frontier on my trusty old Amiga.

Then I didnt actually own a PC until a few years ago and didnt get to play games like Privateer.

Obviously they must of classed privateer in the same "genre" as Elite because if the whole space flight/combat/trade/open ended nature of Privateer was a rip off of Elite on an almost exact basis.

Now comes the question.

How is Elite 4 looking? Has anybody seen it, heard anything about it. Do you think Braben has just given up?

If, from what I hear, Freelancer is this good, then Elite 4 has a lot to live up to.

From what ive heard E4 could be out next year but it seems doutfull,I like yourself was brought up on
elite {spectrum version} and amiga frontiers .But unlike yourself i had the privelige of privateer.Its a shame you missed it it was a clasik,unfortunatley
it only runs in dos, so unless you get an old system you will not be able to play it.

Elite 4 is one of those games that you might as well forget about until they announce it as gold. Theres been like nothing at all (even less than FL ever had) released in forever, so I would just play something else in the meantime. Perhaps Freelancer?

From what I've seen of E4 at it's current stage is that it appears to be exactly the same as Frontier, exactly the same ship models and I would assume similar gameplay (although I doubt there will be landing on planets as there was in Frontier).

It's a bit of an enigma at this stage, the information out there is sketchy at best. As tach said, it would be worthwhile keeping Elite 4 in the back of your head until we hear more about it. Comparing E4 to FL at the moment though, is quite impossible.

Dont get me wrong, I will be getting freelancer cause I really loved elite and Frontier and if the gameplay is similar then I will be a happy man.

I suppose I just feel bad for Braben cause his idea's have been "hijacked" for want of a better word and hope that when Elite 4 comes out (if it ever does) that it is not inferior.
