@ Tachyon

I am just reading the reports about the history of the systems on ign, are they part of the manual, too?

e.g. http://pc.ign.com/articles/380/380940p1.html

I like them because they give the story a even more immersive atmosphere, but are they just a nice prequel, or are they really consistent with the game? e.g. do you encounter the animosities between Rheinland and the GMG during the game? Do you get to no more of those eco-terrorists and Mollys?

To be honest I don't know, I've only read very little of the manual, because I'm saving it for the trip home from the store There are a lot of pre-set faction wars and such, for example the GMG and the Rheinlanders had a big war at one point, the 80 Years War I think, but that was quite a long time ago and they could be friends now, not sure.

do they go over the different kinds of ships and their strengths and weaknesses in the manual or do i have to find that out for myself?

They dont go over any of that stuff in the manual. You hafta find out for yourselves or look to our Guide.

If that is the case I guess the shiplist is a spoiler!

If it is part of the game to discover what ships the player can buy this experience is destroyed by it. If someone does not know that the Titan is the best ship available, perhaps he might be happy getting an Eagle because he thinks he is the strongest now - and will be surprised when he finds out that there are even stronger ships.

After reading the list or the right threads in this forum everyone will only look out for the Titan

O how I miss 300+ page manuals.

Actually I just copied all the IGN background articles and they filled out 27 pages on a word doco. That'd cost a fair bit extra in printing I would imagine.

I do miss the big manuals of old, but unfortunately they don't fit into our world of finacial viability (that's one of my new corporate words! )

I'm actually a supporter of manuals on the discs in PDF format and to be honest, this is really becoming a trend. I work for an American printer manufacturer and we used to include these gigantic manuals (which are bad for the environment) and nowadays we (and other manufacturers with us) are just putting these big ass manuals in PDF format on the disc. IMHO this is a good development, because when I look at what's behind the doors of my sideboard and see that giant heap of manuals (average page count: 250 !!) laying around, I just go nuts !!

Man, I remeber the good ol' days of 1500 page manuals

I know there are no PDF's on the forum but if it is legal then can someone put it up somewere so we can download it?
