Well, when I heard about this feature (as well as the mouse flight thing), I originaly thought, "oh well, Freelancer has been made into something totally ridiculous."
I have to say now after seeing the trailer video that it looks very intense. I don't think I've ever seen amounts of laser fire streaming around as was shown there.
The fact that you can see it coming in and (hopefully) just missing your ship should really rachet up the excitement level a bit.
Also, just before the last scene, where the players ship gets blown up, it looks like it's pouring out 'chaff' to throw off a missle. Incredible, I hope that's what it is as that would be another nice touch I have never seen in a space sim.
