flying / walking

Hi all.

Does anybody know the approximate proportion of the time that is likely to be spent flying as opposed to on foot?

A lot of the screenshots show indoor settings and people with pistols.

I like variety and I'm open-minded about doing deals or whatever, but basically I like to fly around and shoot stuff in pretty surroundings :-) Is that the main thrust of FL, is it suitable for those who basically want to be pilots?

Thats all it is. There is no running around on foot in this game. You'll be spending about 90% - 95% of your time in space. Those people with guns are just there to give you an idea of the sort of characters you'll be running in to. (I should say flying in to really )

And welcome to the forums. Enjoy your stay.

I suppose it all depends on what you like to do... If you are in in to trading etc., you might spend more time at stations and planets, but all in all you'll spend way more time in vacum...

You'll be landing very frequently probably, but you'll end up spending most of your time in space. A lot of your time is spent just cruising from system to system, searching for better things to buy If you want to, that is.

You gotta land to buy better implements of destruction. Also your ship may get a scratch or dent now and then.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!

thanks, that's reassuring, looking forward to it!

i just want to clear this up for you (this confused me before too) you have no character avatar in FL the way you "walk" is you click on people and a cutscene of sorts plays, the only thing you have total control over is your ship and the majority of the time is spent in space

I rule the world incognito!

I would call Trent Edison an Avatar, but much like in the old Sierra Adventure Games, you click on a spot with interaction, and Trent goes there to "do his stuff"...

Nah, there are hotspots you can click on. I think a very good analogy is how you walked around your carrier in WC3 and WC4. You go to a room, see Trent walk in, see the people, click on them, see Trent walk over, start talking, ETC, except all done in real time seamlessly.

Just download the video Bargib made. He shows what the interface is like in space and when you're docked. Here's the vid

Actually I had the movie on my comp before I posted the message. I just couldn't open it as I didn't have the Windows Media Player 9 codec. Btw, why not to convert movies to Div X? WMP format is the past!

Hehe...

I gave up on trying to watch the movies as well.

I actually went to the trouble of installing the newer media player...and they still only played sound. LMAO!
Plus, the new media player is missing some of the options the old one had that I liked.
Thanks goodness I caught a virus and had to restore my system to before I did the update!

I don't mind not seeing the movies very much though...just leaves me more to experience for the first time when I get a copy of the game in my grubby little hands! hehe
