John Ashcroft was a slightly paranoid attorney general in 2001.
i don't know when FL came out, but i'm willing to bet that they added Sean Ashcroft, a slightly paranoid artifact smuggler, after that point.

We noticed that when the game first came out. There are other political connections that can be made from names and events in FL, past and present.

The feeling was that we shouldn't go into them too much, since folks here have different political views.

The game is based on a lot of actual history. e.g. The Bundschuh was a German peasant faction that rebelled against their oppressive rulers in the Middle Ages. Their flag showed a peasant's shoe!

There tends to be an allusion to famous names. I've found quite a few.
