Free to change-freelancer stories

Now-this thread-is-about-making-Freelancer stories, e.g. Freelancer: The Univerese Of Possibillty, Freelancer 2.0, Freelancer: I don't know what you would call it, Freelancer: Trent does Juni and King does Jacobi, Freelancer: No more Freelancer, and what ever else you think. Just make a story! And if anyone wants to change them, then there free to do so, unless the creator says no to editing of the story.

Why not try looking at the Freelancer Fan Fiction forum? You'll find thousands of posts on Freelancer stories. Don't remember any porn ones though ...

If you're talking about the copyright issues, technically its an ugly mess of vague laws and confusing case law. Fan fiction can be considered fair use but ultimately that can only be determined by a court. It makes no difference if its a collection of short stories, a novel, or a full sequel game. Its all either fair use or copyright infringement. The general consensus of my research and an OL dev team member talking to two lawyers is there is no consensus on a fair use claim but as long as it remains non-profit its highly unlikely anyone at MS will notice or even care if they do happen find out about it.

Otherwise, yeah, look in the fan fiction forum.

@Mc0wn6r
As noted, the stories belong in the fan story forum. And a serious note!! KEEP them clean, any porn will be deleted with NO notice.

I know that Finlay, but i'm not really talking about just stories really. I'm also thinking of storyboards for mods and other things. Because fan fiction is fan fiction, and storyboards arn't.

Thats another copyright issue and largely dependent on the main copyright issue. If fan fiction is fair use then the fan authors can protect their work with another copyright, meaning you would need to ask the author for formal permission to use their fiction in your mod/game. If fan fiction is not fair use then the fan fiction author does not have a valid copyright claim and in both cases its infringement of MS's copyright. Meaning if its a FL mod then you can basically use the fan fiction material under the FL EULA as fair use of the license without needing to get permission from the fan fiction author or MS. If its not an FL mod then there is no license to use any of it and you technically need to get permission from MS to use the fan fiction material.

In practice people on here don't seem to care about the copyright issues despite saying they do and talking about it endlessly. I'm not a lawyer but I have researched this extensively.

If I were you I'd just ask the fan fiction author for permission before you use any of their work. This goes well beyond the copyright issues with just a basic respect other people's work. As a fan community most of the work should be considered community held intellectual property but some people insist on maintaining personal control over their work so asking for permission to use fan fiction is still a “social requirement” regardless of its legality.

At this point, Freelancer stories need to go to Fan fiction forum, any other need to go to Amaziing story forum near the bottom of the forum list. Ideas for freelancer mods need to go to General editing. Random adding stories fall in the fan fiction area. This said the thread has been answered. Any stories created here, will be moved to proper forum.
