FL Movie Project

Hey Everyone,

I havn't posted on here for ages, but i still had my old account name and password saved.
Anyway, the reason i'm back on is to open up a new discussion about a FL Film i am currently producing for my University course. As it's a pretty basic Foundation course (which i'm only on cus i got rejected from the full Film BA Degree last year - which with any luck i should be on this year ) i've been limited to 10minutes in length.
For the storyline of the film, i chose to tackle some of the events that take place while Trent is onboard Freeport 7, including the Nomad attack and Trent's escape. I chose this part of the story, because its not really covered in the game (apart from exterior shots of the Nomad attack during the game's opening) and would allow me to basically come up with new plot elements.

I'd appreciate any feedback and comments from anyone.

Thanks a lot
AJ

sounds cool

Interesting. Just what was that cargo Trent was carrying for Lonigan? (It was worth a million credits!) What kind of ship did Trent have? It had to be a good one, since he was out in the Border Worlds. How was it that Trent, Lonigan and Syd the thief got into the escape capsule, when so many others died? Who was the thief there to meet?

Sounds a bit like Titanic, with the mad panic race to survive ...

Well, in the Neural Net Log on the game, i think it says that Trent is carrying Boron to sell to Lonnigan, but i changed this to Diamonds, mainly because figured that Diamonds might be a bit more interesting. I have given Trent a basic freighter (i have based the design loosely on the Freighter Trains), but at this point i havn't really put anything resembling armaments onto it, so i'll mayb have to give that a think.

Unfortunatly, much as i would like to include all of the details of what happened on Freeport 7, due to my time-limit, i've had to cut out all but the most basic. Trent, Lonnigan and Syd all make appearances though, as i didn't want to cut out any of that. The time limit forced me to only include Syd in one short scene, but hopefully after this course at my university is over, i can go back and film lots more to extend it by a lot.

At the moment, i have just over a week left until my deadline, so things are almost in a state of completion. Hopefully when i'm done, i'll be able to upload a low(ish) res version of the finished piece for download, which would be cool.

Is any part of your filming shot from within the game?

I havn't used any footage using the in-game engine, if thats what you mean. I also havn't covered any of the storyline that is heavily covered during the game.

I'd love to see it!

OK everyone.

Just a quick update as to how things are going with this project. I have a version in the final stages of production (adding sound effects, music, finishing off a couple of effects shots) which should be finished in the next day or so. This is about 6 minutes in length. However, i am not going to upload this version, as i am unhappy with how some of the shots have turned out, and i had to use a lower quality 3d model for one of the freighters (which unfortunatly appears in a fair few shots) to save time, as i have a deadline to finish this film before i have to hand it in at my university.

I want to go back to the project once i have got all of the university stuff out of the way and update the 3d models that i am unhappy with, add a hell of a lot of extra footage and just generally improve the quality of the piece. Working to a deadline (which is actually tomorrow ) has meant that i havn't been able to do most of this with my current version, but i will get round to doing it eventually.

I'll post any updates on this thread. Also, if anyone has any questions, just post them on here, because i've been checking back whenever i'm on the web.

Cheers,
AJ

OK, heres a pretty big update -

I've uploaded the current version of the film (the short version as explained in the above post) onto my Myspace.com account. Its availiable for public view and i've tested the video search engine and it comes up at the top of the list if you type in 'freelancer' as a search.
To watch the film as it is, go to www.myspace.com , click on the Videos link on the blue bar near the top (the one with Music, Search, Home etc.) and type 'Freelancer' into the video search engine. It should be at the top. If not, the title of the video as it appears on the search engine is - ' Found... FMP - Freel...'. Well, at least thats how it appears on my browser.
I'd appreciate any comments or opinions from anyone who wants to watch it, although i am already aware that it ends pretty abruptly and that the large freighter model is a bit rubbish. This will hopefully all be fixed soon, when i get round to extending the film.

Cheers,
AJ

On the Opera browser, I keep getting:

<< Sorry! an unexpected error has occurred.

This error has been forwarded to MySpace's technical group. >>

That is typing in 'Freelancer'.

Just plain Freelancer brings up some strange video by that name ...

"The preview of our action conspiracy film that will be completed by this fall."

Aha! Tried just searching around and got "Freel... - Found ... FMP"

Now to see if it works.

p.s. There had better not be a Nomad virus in this thing!!!

Oh, pooh ... have to upgrade my Flash player before I can view it.

Post Mon May 29, 2006 6:28 am

Yeah, thats the problem with the Myspace video player - you need a brand new version of Flash and then u can't download the videos.
I used it for the video though, because they let me upload up to 100mb for free.

Try getting a Blog On the Opera Comunity, they give about 2GB of filespace, takes a little while to figure out to though
