Actually, if you talk to NPCs during the game you will get a more complete story. But essentially that is correct.

It is hard to fly with turkeys when you soar with eagles.

the texas incidetn occured when liberty was trying to build a mega-gate that would link liberty and kusari together with 1 step. This way there was no chance of being attacked in Galliao and the other system.

But when they were testing it it caused a HUGE explosion resulting in the creration of 2 nebulaes and a radioactive field.

It's also a good system to go wreck hunting in -- provided you have a ship with lots of bats, which you will need to keep from being dissolved by the radiation!

You will actually see a lot of bits and pieces of blown up or abandoned stations or supply depots as you fly through different systems. Sort of wish they had identified them.

You can find many rumours on many bases in the Texas system about the Dallas Incident - check around a bit, you'll quickly build up a good idea of what happened.

I think there were some pretty extensive posts in the past dealing the with Texas incident. Basically, as I remember it, Ageira Technologies built the Dallas Research Station in Texas as well as an experimental Jump Gate that could allow ships to travel between Texas and Kusari (perhaps Shikoku) in 1 step. However, something went terribly wrong when testing the gate, which opened a gap to either the Galileo or Kepler antimatter clouds and sucked in the antimatter particles. These were spilled north and south of the gate, effectively destroying the Dallas Research Station, the Trade Lanes being build and anything else in the radius. Ultimately, the Jump Gate was also destroyed.

The incident also created Jump Holes to California and NY in the system, which dramatically increased the crime rate in the system as Rogues and Outcast cardamine smugglers began passing through on their way to Buffalo. At the same time, the Liberty government was no longer interested in developping the system and instead focussed on Colorado. They turned Texas into a prison system and used Xeno and Rogue convicts as cheap labour to produce consummer goods and the likes in the prison manufacturing plants.

End of the story...

I beleive a fan-fiction pertaining to this was constructed. Also, Ageria's abandonment of Texas catalysed the amplification of many criminal organizations, derived primarily from disgruntled former employees (factory-level manufacturing, maintenance, etc.).
