I am looking for the mod that lets you change your ship at the start of single player but I cant think of the name. So I cant find it

It's simple...open the shipsarch.ini and edit yourself. I don't think there this is a specific mod that does what your saying. It's basic editing 101. That being said I've never even attempted to mod but I'm pretty sure there's plenty of tutorials here that explain how and as long as you can read English you should be able to figure it out. Swapping a ship is as easy as cut and paste.

Oxslow if you don't have the SDK installed you won't understand a thing that is in the ini files, they're all compressed. The SDK is the uncompressed versions od the ini files, which allow you to read & edit them with a text editor(notepad, wordpad).

The file you want is the M01A.ini and not the shiparch.ini .To get there open your freelancer directory ie C drive\program files\microsoft games\freelancer\data\missions\m01a

Check in the General editting forum for threads by Chips or Accushot those guys Know what thier talking about.

You might be talking about the Open SP mod or Chips Singleplayer Addon. Both of them allow you to alter your starting ship to any one of the 56 ships in the game.
