Mods -What is this about?

OK folks, been a while since I played and finished this game, hence my earlier post..but what are these Mods? I didn't know you could add your own 'mods' to this game. What do you mean by mod?

Could someone tell me where to get up to speed on this. I would only be interested in adding some extra things to the game - such as ships, planets etc.

first get frelancer mod manager (someone linkey for him i dont know how)
then look through the mods section

Looks like I will be using Freelancer for a long time yet. I thought after finishing the story that was it!
