Deep Space Exploration

Has anyone ever thought about how they shoul discover new systems in Freelancer? There isn't a jumphole to each system and in some threads, there is spoken about some exploration ships! But what ships should that be? They have to had some kind of engine that is more powerfull than anything other. They couldn't travel with cruise speed to other systems they might have seen before through a telescope! This will take too much time (think about, that the sleeper ship travel takes more than 200 years). So if some can give a reasonable answer, I will be happy!

Not sure if i have understood, but if you meen travelling all the way from one system to another without a jumphole/gate.
Then i would say it sounds like a long journey, say 2 hours or so (freelancer playing time)
You could add little goodies on the way or even bases to make the whole idea of exploring more fun.
Hmm, now that im in on the idea, i might just make a MOD out of it, that is, if youre OK with that

When I first got the game, oh back before the Rheinland-GMG War I think it must have been, I tried to fly from one system to another without using a jump hole or gate. All that happens is you fly off to the edge of the screen and just sit there. You don't go anywhere. The way they game is made now, no can do.

No! I wrote it to difficult! Sorry! My question is: How can ships in Freelancer have explored new systems after there arrival in sirius without a jumphole? There is not a jumphole to every system and so they had to have engines which bring them in a acceptable time from one system to an other!

PS: If somebody now, how the battleships in FL travel, I would be happy if he explain it to me!

As far as i've understood, jumpholes where there when they got to Sirius.
The only thing that humans have built are bases, tradelanes, and jumpGATEs
JumpHOLEs where there at the time, and exploring might have been used with them. Otherwise im not 100% sure of another way unless they went from one system to another for a long period of time until they discovered jumpholes.
Which might mean that it was just deleted from the game but is possible for the old NPC's??
Hope you understand what i mean.

Well we saw the sleeperships use some sort of superluminal drive so that could be how battleships move from system to system. As for exploring make a jumpgate and aim it at a system launch a construction/mining/refining ship through and have them build a gate at the other end. Of course this means that there would have to be a way to kill the jump midway through or there would have to be a certin range to jumpgates(which the good doctors imply). In either case it would be extremly dangerous to be an explorer/scout. Is not Kusari trying to build a jumpgate into Dragon territory? I heard from some guy in a bar that the Kusari navy was trying to do that and then I found the construction site. Was that in SP or did I find this in MP? Anyway if that is true maybe you could find it and the infocard would answer your question.

I was playing FL yesterday and I noticed that when you come through a jumpgate you do not come out through the jumpgate on the other side but rather next to it. Maybe there is way to kill the jump so you do not overshoot your destination.

Maybe, it could be; but the same problem would exist! how to come from the new system back?

Ummm... Burzelmann, maybe you're making too much sense here? It's just a game which obviously has a lot of logic holes and mistakes. It's entertainment, not a study in future physics.

In one of my posts I said an exploration/mining/refining/construction ship would have to be sent through. Or at least a ship that has the capabilities and resources to build a return gate. Once this gate is built exploration is easy. Just cruse around and see what the system has to offer.

Maybe we are making or trying to make to much sense out of a game, but that is part of the fun. How does it work and why does it work. This is the same impulse that leads to scientific breakthroughs a need to know why. Practically it may have no use, but if we are every abducted by aliens we will be able to figure out their technology and bring it back to earth. ;-D

@Kartr_Kana:

Okay, valid point. By the way, is your nick some special twist of 'Katakana'? Just out of interest.

@Alien mothership:

We have a volunteering abductee here!

No LXP my name is not a derivitave of Katakana. It stems rather from two novels by my favorite sci-fi author Andre Norton. Space Rangers/The Last Planet has a character called Sargeant Kartr, Star Guard has a Character named Kana Korr. These are two of my favorite characters ever so I combined their names. As for being abducted by Aliens all I stipulate is that I must be aware of my surroundings and able to think and move. I must also be allowed to remember everything and or be allowed to try and escape.

Back to the subject though, somebody wondered how battleships move from system to system. In the intro the Coalition Carriers jump in under their own power.

I wonder if somebody with the modding skills I lack would make a mod to allow for exploration? Please

I hope that this helps burzelman

I believe Battlehsips just use Jumpgates. Also, if you move to the very edge of the screen and zoom in, you will find that you are just gradually moving around the edge of the map. You've technically hit a wall w/ images of space plastered on it. Also, does anyone know how that Rheinland expedition even found the Dyson SPhere, There are no Jh's to it in Rheinaland or the Edge wordls (I doubt it could've gotten to Hispania).
