Shakermaker''s Bank Holiday

Mission: success
Advanced to level 18
Find a job

I bought Freelancer the day it came out, but I could never put myself through playing it completely. Other games came along, lost interest temporarily and de-installed it, etc. But tonite, on Elvis Presley's 70th birthday, I've beated the Nomads ("For now," Juni says .... that's a promise for a sequel *hoping*). The UI instructed me to find a job, but that's not what I going to do. Instead, I am going on a holiday! There's a lot of Rheinland I haven't looked at properly and because I aimed to finish the story before exploring properly, I haven't wandered of the beaten path a lot. Since there isn't a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide for the Sirius system, I was wondering if you guys could give me some travelling tips. Beautiful spots, interesting kit, cheap commodity deals, etc. I am planning to relax a bit for now, so don't send me to violent hot spots please ;-)

Can't give too much, as it could be a spoiler, but, freelance, travel all the systems and see what is available. After several stops, you will begin to have a good listing of trade goods prices/plantes and where the best deals are. For more, see the spoiler forum, as some that could be done during the game would spoil it for others. Explore all the trade lanes and find all the bases. It will take a while.

Shakermaker, Welcome to TLR.

Thanks for the hearty welcome!

Best advice is to check your "card". Lots of folks who were your friends at the end of the SP game suddenly hate your guts now that you're a "good guy" again. That came as a shock to me when I started roaming around and got shot up by my "friends".

Yeah, I've noticed that. The first thing I did was to visit the Outcast-installation in the Badlands of the New York station. I thought I was welcome there but in stead I got blasted all the way back to Manhattan.

After that I decided on a trip to the Outer Rim. I entered Sigma 19 fromt the Honshu system, found the jumphole to Omicron Beta, but that's where I got a nasty suprise. I was awaited by Outcasts with high level weapons and ships. I guess I have to level up a bit before I start anything like that again!

Back to Sirius to explore!

Since you're back in good graces, and a hero with Liberty's govt., you are then enemies again with their enemies. Damn NPC's, they have such short memories...
An essestial, and well thought out, part of the gameplay after the storyline is to work on your reputation and form alliances. Without getting into spoilers, check your neural net to find out which group you want to allign with, and find out their enemies, and fight that group. There's a group that by killing off about 10-15 ships will get you low neutral with the Corsairs, and a different one with the Outcasts. Trick of the game is finding out who they are and where they're located. But again, the point of the game after the storyline is to explore, explore, explore. Check the spoiler forum for hints and more if you get stuck.

Welcome to TLR! Stick around a while.

I'm the newest guy around when it comes to forum posts but my interest comes from a reverent appriciation for Lancers Reactor's help along my way.

Only one thought here,
Freelancers replay value in MP is beyond any online game I've ever played.

Find some buddies on a server or buy a copy of FL for your best friend.

Good times are to be had with the type of team based play this game offers.

Once you are "God of all things FL"
then just start again with a friend at level 1 and team up on some missions
and you will see a replay value like non-other in MP gaming.

Best of wishes &
PLay On.

welcome shakermaker nice to see ya'll.

the exploration post plot was the best part of the game for me first time round. dunno how many times i've been round the block but i only play off line single so i am quite inventive when it comes to keeping single play interesting. don't be afraid to poke your head down dark alleys, that is where all the fun goes on. be liberal with your ship and weps exploration as well as jump hole exploration, you will learn more about game, your own and enemy potential that way.

when you get to the top levels try downgrading your ship to a LF or replay the plot without upgrading your weps so the AI become a challenge again...see how far you get.

i reckon your plan to take your time is correct. earn some wad so when you do come across nice toys you can afford 'em and when you get an ass kickin' you can repair. also i'm sure this ain't a spoiler but have you tried clicking on the patrol paths on your nav map. follow much used patrols and they will help you along the road to the undiscovered country.

I've been a real Freelancer for about 6 play-hours now. What I really like to do at the moment is just hauling cargo from one end of Sirius to the other, enjoy the sights and make some money while I'm at it. I've discovered a couple of wrecks with some 10 level kit I can't use yet. I guess the real pretty ships are hard to find. I don't want to spoil too much by browsing through the spoiler threads; I did download a map of Sirius though, makes the planning easier.

Anyway, back to the game!

EDIT Really, really have to go to bed now! I just hauled some cardamine from Ainu depot to Manhattan, and for the first time ever I got scanned and they DID find something. "We've got a winner!" I was already entering a trade lane so no shots had to be fired (does that keep my rep intact?). I also saw a horrible accident. Two big transports got to close to a planet and crashed. Dreadful ;-)

and thats why i never get into formation with a convoy on approach from the other side of the planet.

but a good way of finding out some in system or in house trade routes is to hail cargo vessels then check the info card for that item and find out what the profit is.

Thats it you Xenos scumbag, now im miffed. You scratched my new paint job.

Those Level 10 guns really run your rating up in a hurry! Best to hang on to some of it, for the day you will finally have a ship to use some of it.

One of the best things about FL is that you can take your time ... even in the SP game. Juni and the bad guys will all hold off destorying the universe while you go off and explore.

<< thats why i never get into formation with a convoy on approach from the other side of the planet. >>

I decided to get into formation with a Bounty Hunter once, figuring she would lead me to the freeport in a system I was visiting for the first time. Instead, the moron flew us both into a sun!

LMAO Puke, that's hilarious

the best challenges MP are for me to stick to the role of anything you choose, i.e. making of FL a real RPG.
Blood Dragons are interresting for this, since they have their own base and a good story. Not that Kusari is much fun though, but if you get on a (modded) roleplay dedicated FL server then you might concider this.
Ofcourse you'd have to limit yourself to the Dragon HF and the Tanto's etc, but if you're with more guys who are dedicated it can be a lot of fun.

Also, trying to take on some VHF's in a starflyer, or better yet, a Patriot (ace ship btw) is a lot of fun. I know guys who could pull it off.

*waits for Dragonbreath*
