Lots of Newbie Questions

Hello I am new to Freelancing and its genre and I am about to present to any willing Freelancer wizards a plethora of questions to be anwsered. Some make no sense some make perfect sense but I would really like them anwsered none the less. And excuse me if this is in some FAQ somewhere on this website I just don't feel like sifting through all of the pages of infomation right now, so without further delay.

1. How bloody large is this place? I mean I finished the campaign just tonight and from what I can tell I have only taken a small portion out of the map. Rheinland, Borderworlds, and the very southern section I haven't even visited, and it seems there are still many solar systems and stations I have yet to visit in; Liberty, Kusari, and Bretonia. This seems like a task to explore all of this. O_O I also note this is, as I assume though, the largest bloody game I have ever played meaning size of the gameworld.

2. I want to play online, but I do not know if I should download the 1.1 patch or just stick with 1.0 because 1.1 is just a small patch for a server/client connection side problem.

3. Where is a good server to play in? And I mean lots of people and leastest lag, good admins and helpful people.

4. What am I suppose to do now? I finished the campaign and now I have nothing to do except explore and I don't like exploring unless I have some people with in the game to remind me I am not losing my mind.

5. not really a question, but great website and I have never seen such a large list of modifications for a game at one site before.

6. Oh my god, is there anyway that is faster then the current process of moving from one galaxy, to planets, to solar systems? IT took me nearly an 2 hours in the beginning of the campaign to go to the California system to the New york system about 3-4 times, I could kill that junko lady and the developers for doing that. I almost died of insane laughter after I found out I had to go back to the california system, but then thankfully I didn't have to.

7. How does trading work?

8. How does mining work?

9. How does pirating/lanehacking work. The last three questions mainly referring to online gameplay, meaning don't attack this, attack that, don't mine there, mine here ect.

10. When you load up a character on a server, now is the server world the same for all players or is the missions done ect. ect. different for each player? Or in simply put, does each player play in the whole moving world together on one server or do they all have per chracter a unqier perspective on what has been done in that world?

Thanks to any who reply in advance.

To lane hack shoot at the trade land ring and watch the blue bar go down when it reaches zero u have disrupted the Trade lane.

To pirate scan a transport or freighter to see if they have decent cargo if so shoot them

Size? I don't think this is a spoiler, so I'll just say that I have visited over 50 systems.

Getting around fast? Try jump holes! There are some real short cuts. And in the game, you don't have to act as soon as Juni tells you. Take your time. Juni will wait. (So will the bad guys, surprisingly.)

Trading ... well, the idea is to buy things cheaply and sell them for a higher price.

Mining ... find an area with asteroids rich in something worth selling: diamonds, gold, copper, hydrocarbons, alien artifacts, water, scarp metal etc. Best to use one gun to shoot the fast moving asteroids. Otherwise, you might blow away you you are mining for too!

Best advice is to click on the Forums link at the top of this page and see what other FL forums are available. You'll find the answers to a lot of your questions there.

Cheers.

(Edited in shock at seeing what I had written instead of "mining"!)

Exploring is the fun of it all. Remember, a "freelancer" acts alone by nature, but you will still encounter plenty of scoundrels out there. If you want to stick with the single player storyline, first thing is the absolute necessity of all mods Freelancer Mod Manager. This activates just about every mod on this site, and it's simplicity is amazing.
None of the mods actually change the missions or the storyline, but add ships, and change flying modes (faster ships, harder kills etc). Check the downloads sections and search for mods. Suggestions are TNG 2.65, WTS world, Tie Universe, and Rebalance Mod. Sorry to all I've forgotten, these are just the ones I've played lately. The all add "elements" to the storyline to keep the game refreshed.

Slightly of relevence to one of your questions.

Is it possible to mod the game so you dont have to use jumpgates or jumpholes?

LIke you have your own jump engine? Ive asked a question like this already i think, cant remember. Mabye you fire it like a countermeasure and it takes around 15 seconds as you start cruising and then go into a jumptunnel.
Or you could make it star treke and make a big bang noise and bright flash?

i dunno, just wonderin is it posible.

No, Jump drives are not possible.

3. Two servers I've enjoyed playing on are Freeport GC and the Jolt server. Jolt always has a good many people on it, and so is fun to play on, but Freeport GC is good when you just want to fly around with a couple of your friends.

7. The essence of trading is a) buy something cheaply at a place that produces it and b) sell it elsewhere, where it's in demand. For example, you can buy Trade Lane parts from Pueblo Station in Colorado, where they're made, and take them to the Tau-31 Gate Construction Site, where they're obviously desperate to get their hands on as many as possible, and they'll pay you good money for them.

10. In online play, you can see other players as they fly around. You can go with them, shoot them, whatever. Docked on bases, however, everyone has a seperate world. For example, the missions on offer from the Job Board will be different.

I asked Phil Wattenbarger at the Freelancer Fanstock in TX just this question, about being able to travel between systems without jumpgates or jumpholes. His answer was pretty simple: "No, don't even try it".
