A largely pointless question about Sigma 13

If the whole system is basically just a huge oil field, how come the whole thing doesn't go up in flames when you fly through it or fire your weapons. Using a blowtorch on a puddle of petrol will lead to fiery nastiness, why not a Flamecurse turret in the crow nebula?

All answers welcome, be foolish, serious or incomprehenisble. Your choice.

Impossible is impossible

I think the atoms inside the field are stable, very stable. Otherwise, the GMG would waste money building gas miners are having them destroyed the moment they fly them in

To burn in this case requires three things - heat, fuel and oxygen. Fuel is the gas clouds. Heat should be from the friction of passage or firing of a hot weapon or simply from a pressure wave (think of it concentrating thermal energy). I see no mention nor see the prevalent blues and green of oxygen gas.

That's my take.

That's what you call the gas pockets. They're lumps of oxygen. So, when you fly through one, all three conditions are met. I think there is actually someone somewhere in Freelancer that mentions oxygen pockets.

The GMG have rumors that tell alot about the gas pockets. The oxygen gas pockets are areas with oxygen. When a ship passes through, the ship's exhaust makes the oxygen "explode". As far as I know, GMG gas miners use special "xeon" thrusters that do not ignite gas pockets.

strafe! the three VHF's are equal in strength
