will look at it this way all this stuff you r doing MODDERS is free work for them if they want it due to i say at lest 90% or more ant copy protected so your doing free work if they want to use it or some of it n realy if it was by law all you have too do is change 30% of it n its a new idea

also if they do make a new one it would be more like earth n beyound idea iam sure of that n they would charge a fee to play it like 20-50 a month or maybe all these pepole that want it should send some money to one site if they want to take it on to buy the games rights n then be able to make it them selves with the modders i was tryint to buy the rights way back then but iam sorry i dont have that type of money in my pocket an any type of deal i tried to cut with my lawyer with them

Thing is, everyone around here is waiting tense for it. Nobody knows whether there will or won't be a sequel. They haven't even announced whether they're even thinking about it.

If they just said 'yes, we are thinking about it and playing with a few ideas' or 'no, we haven't got any plans' then we'd all be able to get on with being ecstatic or completely inconsolable. But we're getting no response at all, its like talking to a wall... and its far more exasperating than finding out that there won't be, in which case we can be upset, then get over it and make the best of what we've got.

But, as has been said, the only sign that has been given that Microsoft even KNOW that they have produced Freelancer is that patch. With all the hype leading up to its release a year and a half ago and how popular it is, you would have expected more after it was released...

Although I think there is hope, because IMO they would be more likely to not say anything if they ARE working on a sequel than if they weren't.

my idea is there is no FL2, well not for at least 2-3 years, what i would guess more likely, would be an expansion set, that would add alot of new ships, systems, and maybe even a story, where sirius is left and the coalition is to be defeated.

Whenever i see a new post on this thread, i come here hoping to find that someone has found an article or something saying that Microsoft have confirmed that they'll be making a sequal.

Alas it still hasn't come to pass.

I know how you feel, its just like me. I follow these threads for ages, hoping someone will come up with something.

I check the Microsoft games website every coupla weeks, but all to no avail. In fact, they don't even seem to have updated the front page in AGES.

Does anyone know the sales numbers? That would be a real indicator of whether or not a sequel is forthcoming.

In an old interview with Chris Roberts I recently saw (again) he states that MS is only interested in a title if they feel they can sell 500k + units. Of course he was referring to the criteria they use to determine if they will buy a title, not start a new one from inhouse talent.

Doesn't Microsoft usually want expansions out for their games?

for all we know they might be makin a sequel right now but have kept it secret take halo 2 for example how long were bungie making that,halo was realeased in 2002 and the sequel will be released late this year.who knows what microsoft are planning for freelancer cause they had to keep half life 2 secret cause some sad haker stole the code.

I hold high hopes for it.

The game holds MASSIVE amounts of potential and is a gold mine waiting to happen.

The silence coming from the MS camp can only be a good sign and i think Bargib knows something

Whilst MS are an easy target for flaming, they can supply limitless amounts of funding on to the FL franchise.

I doubt however any announcement will be made until closer to the time or potentially after release of the XBOX 2 as MS games will no doubt be made to utilise its power. Much like some are now. More profit that way.

People thereis no way they would end the whole thing right here for a bunch of reasons number one what happend to the coallision they could chase them dawn and have another war or the nomads remeber they only lost a battle the war is still to be won plus the allien race who created them the DAMM KAVASH or something like that the Dr. Said that there was no sing of a disease war or any conflict they just diapeard they aslo could be back and wan't a piece of the action just think about it, then does anyone here know how many copies of the game was sold it's very popular if for any reason this is one why Microsoft will make another Freelacer they erned big box on the first ont the 2nd one should sell just as well.

I don't know if this tidbit is good or bad ? Or even how to interpret it. I just purchased FL two weeks ago. The game is VERY hard to find where I live, so I ordered on-line from "Sta_les" and followed up with a phone call to verify delivery. They stated they only had five (5) copies in stock and that the game was discontinued !! Now, this begs the question, discontinued by who?, Sta_ples carrying it, or MS producing it? I'm sure you all have TONS more info/sources than me, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents worth. I'm already seriously addicted to this game !!!!
