Unusually realistic-looking screenshot.

I took some screenshots ages ago, when I had this problem that caused everything to be all dark. Recently, I looked at this screenshot of Manhattan and I suddenly thought, "hey that looks nice". Instead of wasting time describing it, just see for yourself. I wouldn't normally post something like this, but without anything new happening (like news of an expansion or sequel), I thought I might as well.

Probably you changed either a setting for your monitor or your game (brightness, contrast, etc). Looks pretty, though. Maybe that's how NASA's getting all those nice images of Earth, Print Scrn is a hell of a lot cheaper than a shuttle. --- VH16

All that has occured is contrast &/or brightness has been adjusted darker. This can be done from Menu OPTIONS &/or VId card settings.

It may be a graphics setting. A system's sun generates light, but there's also an ambient light that lights the "dark side" of things. Maybe at a particular graphic level that gets turned off.

Honestly, I'm puzzled as to why that happened...one day I reinstalled it (or it could've been an updated graphics driver) and it was like that. I mean the Gamma slider was about 2 thirds along, and I never changed any other settings that would make that kind of change.

Funny enough, I'm experiencing the OPPOSITE with my new computer. I have the Gamma setting as low as it goes and the other computer settings seem fine, but it looks bright and washed out.

But not like any of that matters, since I only put the picture up because I thought it looked nice, so I thought I'd show it to you people.

EDIT: Oh yeah, that's right. You'll probably notice "inconsistancies" with the loadout. That's from when I was playing the demo, and I was using that mod where everything was sold at "level 1". You'll notice there's also Sunslayers, and what you don't see is the lvl10 Graviton shield I had. It's amazing what kind of things are just lying around in the demo's game code.

I think the ambient light in screenshots is darkened.

Not exactly sure what I'm looking at. Looks normal to me...

The picture quality is also a bit screwed up, the sections where to colors contrast drastically get blurred, erasing the little noticeable polygons of your ship when you play in game.
