Yes 38 is the max level. But the game never ends, unless you want it to. Try playing a mod with the storyline removed. You will probably enjoy it..

In the unmodded game there really is no reason that I remember for having a level above 34 or so since all the equipment is avaiable for purchase by then. It's mostly a "look how cool I look!" thing.

Hehe! Someone told me they managed to make a level 99 character on his 'puter. He had to give the character $999,999,999 and 10,000 level 10 shields as cargo but he said he finally got to level 99. Some players have tried to maximize their cash on my server and have had crashes resulting in not being able to access ANY characters on that account. I have a level 88 player with $873M and she couldn't raise the amount much more without having problems.
