Story Mods

Hey people, this question has probably been asked before, but I want to know whether there are some mods out there that actually have a new story or a premise in them.

I have already played some mods, all of them only added new ships/weapons/systems/etc., I'm looking for a mod that adds a story with new cutscenes and/or new speech/music. I doubt something like this is available since I know most of the major mods out there, but I thought maybe I should ask the more enlightened people here.

If there is no such thing, what other mod can you recommend that is somewhat close to adding a new storyline?

Thanks
kress

I once tried to make new story missions, but I came up against the following problems:

1) A complete writer's block

2) The INI coding for the mission files is incredibly nonintuitive. I did eventually decipher it, but it led me on to:

3) I have no idea at all about cutscenes. I can't do them to save my life.

4) I had no way of recording any authentic sounding speech.

If you want to give it a shot, I wrote a short tutorial in the tutorial forum () which covers the basic functions such as setting up ships, objectives, waypoints etc. If you want more help after that, you can email me. Address is on my profile.

I don't think that there are Mods with new cutscenes. In my opinion Hostile Universe added the most new elements to the game, as spooky systems, a (really difficult) riddle within the game (you can win 1 Mio $), jobs like searching for lost ships/lost passengers and some phenomena with the game engine no one ever could explain (I asked some questions months ago in a forum but nobody answered).
Hostile Universe 8.1. is the last version (download: http://www.respawn.co.uk/downloads.html ) - seems that the file has disappeared from TLR
Legendary Hostile Universe 8.0 was VERY difficult i.e. impossible for the campaign. Download: TLR News Archive, August 7th, 2003.

Yeah Darkstone, apparently making story driven mods is a very big undertaking. I have just browsed through your 3 part tutorial and it requires much more advanced knowledge than your usual modders got. You have to worry about every single aspect, especially the triggers, you can't make a single mistake cause the mission just stops and nothing happens if you enter a single wrong parameter. Yes, I assume such an undertaking is impossible unless you have a company of your own. You would need a special audio editing studio, with professional voice actors, professional mixers for the music and of course some people that have a very imaganative mind with new ideas for storylines.

I recall that a few modders tried to do such a thing in the past, such as the PheonixMod team that even presumed to put a whole new intro (god knows how they were going to accomplish that feat) and some cutscenes, but as usual, nothing ever came out of it.

You see, the thing is I've exhausted SP and MP gaming and I've gotten sick of both in the past couple of months, so I was looking for something new that can keep me playing this beautiful game. I guess my best bet is to wait for FL 2 (if it ever comes out, that is).

Zazie, yes I've tried the Hostile Universe mod before, it's certainly original and has some very interesting aspects, unfortunately like many other mods, it never kept me playing for long, since there was no new premise behind it and it basically followed the same old aspects as in the original Freelancer.
