Goodbye Freelancer

Well I guess freelancer is slowly ending judging by the fact that there are only 3 to 4 major servers left. The frost-works modding server I was on finally lost all its players over time and I guess every other servers will as well. As much as I love them I guess space simulator games are going downhill, because they don't make the sales as well as gaming companies want. I think the petition is a good idea, but I think it won't work either, because even if 6000 signed it microsoft wouldn't find that many people large enough to profit from. I really do hope they come out with a freelancer sequel, but I highly doubt it will happen.

There's a lot of BS that goes on over at Frostworks, and not a lot seems to get done nowadays. We've been promised NU for a while now, but no one's delivering. Darkblade seems to be the only one actually doing anything. Maybe if they kil Level2 we can get him working on STTC...

Anyways it's a moot point - the forum has been screwed for a while now and the server is usually empty - it only gets talked about when it goes down anyway, at which point the entire community shows up to piss and moan as to why the server they never play on isn't working.

I've been playing TNG on Bobway for a bit, exploring all the ships. It has a good number of players during the day, although it becomes a ghost town at night.

Agreed. I am really ticked off at frost-works for using NU as a thing to draw my attention longer. Dark Blade was the only one who did serious work and the last time I talked to him he seemed like he was getting sick of it all. I cant blame him. Too bad NU never worked out though. It seemed like it was going to be the ultimate mod. Im going to see if I can get my hands on the unfinished version. As for playing freelancer I've switced to the last great server which is eagle utpopia. See you all you frost-works saps there.

I'm sure there are more than 4 major servers left. (Unless you think major is a server with over 70 slots)

well i ant gunna abondon a sinkin ship ill try to throw so of the water off by getting more people into it and soon i will start a server if microsoft does not make a sequal me and my crew (called bobcrew) will try and make a considered sequal of course we cant use the charaters from the plot unless microsfot lets us but i think i'll say6 to them that if they are not going make a new one i should be able to also a in the next 15-0 years (long wait i know) me and my friends should be near the end of our game inspired by freelancer called freestar it will be a total online rpg in part of a galaxy were you land on citys walk around do what evr you want and take missions it will be sort off my way of honoring freelancer

That sounds good. I wish more had that sense of sticking with freelancer. I will refuse to let such a great game die. I just hope the reverse pyshcology of my original message works to bring back a stronger group of players to freelancer

hey blue long time no see, it is sad about fw it looked like STTC and NU wer picking up and then *boom* no more forum i was really disappointed as thats the only real mod i play online now i just play on the [MC's server check it out sometime there's usually 20+ ppl on their website is freelancer.mcgamer.com look me up online sometime and i'll help you get started my name there is Dragon_Sword the [MC clan also operates a victors mod, and TNG mod server why don't you all give it a try tho its kinda hard not to be a pingpong ball in the asteroids fields(3k cruise mod comes with a special mod that adds a clan system)also i'm not advertising i'm just getting bored causei can't get into mods like TNG or Excelsia cause they're too hard starting out and it takes months to get that puny-but-better-than-a-starfrier-lf so that's why i don;t play on those servers and those that have some potential to me are too strict like the asylum server,rules.rules.and more rules.note: theres lots aclans hosted there and they have events for all players clan or not like tournemants deathmatches etc.

oh and blue,? dont know if they were polite and told you this but....Welcome to TLR

To be honest, you say only 3 major servers left, but until Jan this year, the most any server could handle was 40 MAX. I don't know what they did to make a server handle 70 without lag - its an awesome feat, but there are PLENTY of busy servers. At around 8pm GMT you log on, you will find around 8-9 servers that have 30+ players, with a further 10 servers with 20 players, and stacks with 10-20 players.

Whilst some servers are getting larger, mods are hopefully going to be keeping people addicted for around another 6 months or so at least, and we are still getting new players/new people to FL everyday - which is fantastic.

Chips is right and he also is one of the main reasons people are still interested in freelacer due to the numerous brilliant mods he has made and also the other brillant mod makers

If you're worrying about new blood running out, you might want to know that I've had a phone line installed and am buying broadband just because I want to play MP. Sure, I'll get the added bonus of getting on this 'Internet' thing but hey, it's all for the FL

Well nobody has told Egosoft then. They are working on the expansion for X2-The Threat, and also X2-Online

There are still many servers left. But it is a good game, except the sizes.
Maby games like homeworld 2, offer better graphics and controls and also other options, freelancer is atracting in some sort of a way (Juni's but LOL), don't you think?

We Will fight in the space!
We Will fight on the planets!
We will fight in the fields and in the belts!
We will fight in the galaxies!
WE SHELL NEVER SERRENDER!!!

Sorry Winston, but someone had to change it.

there will always be single player too. Even when the servers are long dead, and TLR long since shut down, some kid years from now will find an old PC in his grandparent's basement and will fire up FL once more, and it shall live again. --- VH16
