acquiring loot

Is it possible to take looted weapons that are in your hold and switch them out with the ones mounted on your ship? The only way I've found to do it is to sell all my weapons including the looted ones and then rebuy them at several times the cost I received for them. It's a shame that you can pick up some awesome artillery and then you can't keep it.

Also, is there a best way to locate the hidden wrecks in order to pick up the surprise loot? I've had limited success in finding the wrecks. The one time I found a couple I noticed a couple of tiny red crosses in the nav map and checked them out. I've seen the list of hidden wrecks and I've checked out the sectors when I was in the area but haven't found anything. I've even done pattern searches with no success. The little red crosses just don't show up. (This is in single player mode of course).

And one more thing, I'm often trying to pick up non-weapon loot such as metals or fuels and can't. Is that because my cargo hold is full? If that is the case, why can I pick up weapons until the cows come home? I'm not complaining, I'll take them. I'm just curious to know if I'm missing something.

Thanks much,
Rich

I had the same problem myself, not so much with the weapons on th ship, but the configuration, lost me tens of thousands in credits
What you will notice in the upper left of the weapon picture is a thing that looks like a puzzle piece, if you click on that, it will unmount the weapon/torp/missile/cm/mine/shield/thruster from your ship, and the puzzle piece is now in 2 pieces, click on that button again to re-mount it.

As for the unlimited weapons, that has been duscussed at length, no-one can figure it out as of yet...

Hope that helps

the mounted guns have a little like.. 2-puzzle piece, click on it to unmount the gun and mount what you want.

I'll have to look for that. Thanks for the replies. Any word of advice on searching for the hidden wrecks?

Well, aside from looking at the guide on this site...

If you want to find them on your own, consider that they are wrecks. So look for dangerous places that might wreck ships. Things like asteroid fields, nebulae with radiation, things like that. There are very few (if any) wrecks just lying about in open space. Remember to check your nav map periodically while searching. Wrecks appear there as a red cross

re: guns etc. Well, if all else fails try the manual.

As to wrecks, they are going to be in out of the way places -- or they would have been found by others. They will often be in places where wrecks are likely to happen: dangerous areas full of radiation, exploding gas clouds, mines etc. You need to check you nav map periodically, since wrecks will often be in areas where your sensors do not work very well. But if you pass within range of a wreck, it will show up on your nav map as a red X. And talk to people in bars. Several times I got rumours about a ship being wrecked some place, and once I was sold the location of a wreck.

I've forgotten how many wrecks there are, but most systems will have some. Go exploring. You'd be surprised how much there is to this game that most people miss. Just race through the missions with Juni and you are only getting maybe half of the fun! (Let her wait. She's not going anywhere without you.)

Huh. I bought the game used and didn't get a manual with it. I'll have to look for it. I found the sector locations of the wrecks listed on the net and know generally where to look. I was is a couple of areas though where I did a pretty intensive pattern search and came up emtpy. It was in a cloud though so perhaps I wasn't thorough enough.

Thanks for the tips.

If you get desperate to know where they are, you can look in the spoiler forum.

You arent garunteed to find a wreck in every cloud, some dont have any, some have several, for example, the Napo and Siniestre clouds have up to 20 wrecks for a reason i cant reveal, where as some clouds have none.

As for the manual, its on the CD in PDF form.
