factions

I restarted my game for about the fifth time, and went around talking to people in the bar on manhattan before you talk to Juni. I noticed for the first time that you can add new factions to your rep list just by talking to them in bars, not even having to meet them in space. However, when I talked to the guy from Samura (after he got done saying "Samura Industries doesn't care about human life if it gets in the way of their projects" and "Samura Industries doesn't forget anything", my rep listed as about 1/3 on the hostile side. I didn't look to see if it was this way before talking to him. Anyone know if talking to people with nothing to say decreases your rep with that faction?

I think he had nothing to say because you had a bad rep with him. You start off negative with some factions. After the first half of the first mission, I talked to a BH representative on Pittsburgh, and he said words to the effect of "We hate you, go away." And I had no idea why that was, because I was in with the Police

It's probably your first impressions that make them not like you. You wouldn't be too friendly to a guy coming up to you in a bar and saying "Hey, what ya got?" would you?

Of all the systems, in all the galaxy, you had to fly into mine.
