Instant maneuverability!

More for the newbies to the game, but it might help some vets too. It's quite simple, and blindingly obvious once I found it. If this is common knowlege then flame away.

Set your in-game mouse sensitivity to it's highest level on the slider. It takes a little while to get used to, but it really DOES give your ship that little bit of extra responsiveness when you don't have to move the mouse as far to get to max turn rate.

Just thought I'd share.

You can also edit your ini files to change it as well.

Increasing the mouse sensitivity doesn't make you more maneuverable, it just makes your mouse more resonsive. The angle that you turn is always limited by your screen, it can't go outside it.

How about instant cruise .
Make sure you're not in "go to", docking, or formation. (cancel these with the escape button.)
Start cruise as normal, but hold down strafe (it can be left or right, just hold it down)
When you start cruising (while holding strafe) press your engine kill button.
surprise, your cruise engines will still be engaged but your forward speed is 0.
Releasing strafe will cancel this, so in order to make your ship stay in this mode, press enter, release strafe and press enter again.
Now make sure you haven't selected anything at all on the screen (ie. another player) and press F2 (go to). If you did it right, you should zoom to whatever your cruise speed is.

anyone heard of Reverse Thrust (default key X )?
If you want agility practice around with that feature. A lot of people forget to use that one but it wins you a lot of fights

Edit: Just to annoy you

Blaze: The point is that with higher mouse sensitivity, you don't have to PHYSICALLY move the mouse as far in order to get to your maximum turn rate. It simply takes less time and effort to get yourself into the full rate of the turn.

Thats what I mean, it doesn't make you instantly maneuverable. I was just critising I guess.

Post Thu Jul 08, 2004 9:42 am

It's much easier to aim with lower sensitivity. So I keep my mouse sensitivity low.

Post Thu Jul 08, 2004 10:40 am

That just takes practice
I can't aim with high or low sensibility so for me it doesn't make any difference. I just don't want to drag my mouse accross the entire desk to make my ship turn
