Taking the little ones to their fullest!

I've seen a few examples of real VHF-killer loadouts on low-end ships, like Adv. Stunpulses and high-end mines on a Patriot and similar things. What are some of the loadouts you like to use on the really low-power ships in the game, IE Starflier, Patriot, Cavalier?

Right now I'm using a Patriot on a few MP servers with three Barrager 1s (amazing deal, as it's a class-2 that outclasses a class-3 Drail) and an Advanced Stunpulse. The agility lets it work quite well in all the House systems, though I have yet to venture into the more irradiated areas of space with it.

I never use mies or missiles, as my fighting style gives the mine a roughly 50-50 chance of hitting me instead of an enemy, and missiles are just too expensive and easy to evade.

When I'm in a Dagger the loadout is quite similar - one Stupulse Turret, two Barrager 1s and two Barrager 2s. Those Junkers may be scum, but they make some nice low-class weapons.

What you have to worry about with those Junker and other powerful weapons if letting the bad guys get close to you! Their weapons have a shorter range than most, so you can try to stay out of the way. But if you forget and go head to head, you might be surprised at the damage they've done to you.

I don't like using their weapons for the same reason -- short range. I'd rather start knocking down the shields and do some hull damage before the hostiles can get close enough to do it to me!

I've never really been bothered by short-range weapons actually, since dogfights are strictly close-range affairs, and if a target is farther away than 500m then they're usually evading and I'm not going to hit it anyway. As for head-on affairs and shields, that's where the Stunpulse comes in.

2x Stunpulse
2x Adv. Stunpulse
1x Ripper mine

Splash 'em with a healthy helping of shieldbuster, follow up with a ripper in the keister. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Missiles for me

Post Sun Jul 04, 2004 11:57 pm

I've converted back to Drails as my main guns. I like the look of the models, really. Maybe someday when my aim improves I'll try some Plasma weapons.

I also flew a Dagger again today for the first time in a few weeks of Patriot work. I actually found it very slow and a rather large target. I've been spoiled! I don't think I can love my Dagger the same way again!

Last time I tried a Ripper dispenser on an LF, I ended up blowing myself away quite nicely. Maybe I just need to be more careful with it hehe.

Side note - are the power drain ratings on every gun exact, or are they rounded off? I seem to get more life out of the Drails than I did the Barragers, even though they're both rated with 9 drain.

The Dagger is the ticket. I think i had 2 skyrails, a skyrail turret, a slingshot missile and something else... Took on ten falcons unassisted. It just took a while.

Missiles work quite well when you're in a head-on pass, but that's about it.

Mines don't seem to do much for me, but then again, they might slow some persuers down just enough to back off, and I just don't notice that effect.
