multiplayer, help me!

Hi

I recently got FL, became familiar with the game through single player, but now i have a problem. I seem to have a really high ping in MP games, which makes them virtually unplayable! I send a message, and 2 mins later it appears! The only time im ok is when docked. I dont experience this in any other games, i have NTL broadband 500k+! If anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it, pls help me!

You can't fix it. Your connection is bad and no matter what is your internet speed.
I play in the IONCROSS server and I do one mission at a time because of the same problem. So you can deal with it or just play on different servers.

Try a different server, one that is closer to where you live. Check the server forum for a listing of servers.

I just want to say that I live in Israel and there is no server of this game. I won't make a server because I want to play in one, right now- IONCROSS

can i have a mountain dew?

i have a fairly beefy ADSL connection and my FL lags a bit, but thats cos i play on intl servers.

Well it is not the connection. It's the distance.
I have an ADSL (I think). Any way I saw in the IONCROSS site the preformance of my computer and it was the secend most best, but I have TONS of laggs and stuff because I am from Israel and the server is in somewhere else

I had this problem, but then i realised i had MSN messenger running in the background.

Closed that, and anything else which might be using bandwidth, and now it runs smooth as silk!

Thx for the advice, but I don't think that my msn messenger is working. I deleted it. But I will check it out. Thx anyway

Ok i logged out of MSN and tried the UK servers, same problem!

Any other ideas?

BTW i have norton anti virus running, is that a problem?

Post Sun Jul 04, 2004 1:35 pm

my 1Mbit conn has no problems with lag. I have sometimes MSN running and a dozen other programs and I have no problems.

1st: what's your comp specs?
2nd: where do you live?

this could be useful info for determining what the problem is.

Norton is always a problem. Get rid of it, use AVG Free. Might not fix the network lag, but it helps keep your PC up to speed.

Do you have any firewalls installed? Do you connect through a router, or just right into the modem? Does this happen with any other online games?

I got Norton both AV and firewall and I have no problems.

Edit: Just to annoy you

Never said Norton causes network lag all the time, but it DOES take a lot of resources. You run well now, fine. Remove Norton (although it's so hardwired it is difficult to completely remove), good chance you'll run better.

Norton is overpriced, overhyped, ineffective and bloated. I could go on a Norton rant, but I'd rather not. Just take a look at soome user reviews.

AVG Free and Zonealarm are the way to go.

Ex-Squeeze me? I've been using Norton Corporate for well over 4 solid years and have had zero, count 'em zero viruses. This program is a must install on any computer I get my hands on.

I just recently started to use Norton, and i've had zero problems with it.

@Forgotten, if you still have bad lag even on UK servers, it may be a problem with your isp.
