Freelancer LANParty

Greetings,

Although this is not an officially planned event as I am just trying to see how many people would actually want to go before I start any further planning.

-The event would be held sometime this summer, July or August.
-It would be held somewhere in Northern New Jersey, depending on how many takers I get, I could host it in a variety of places.
-Server-side mods would be used, nothing too crazy here. I would prefer only 1 server to be up for people to all get together and play for the day.
-Possibly make some temporary clans for the day and hold some clan wars.
-Possibly if we have enough people, I would put a battleship mod up on the server and have a fleet vs fleet battle with gunships, battleships, cruisers and fighter escort and just meet somewhere in open space and duke it out.
-Event would be at most two (2) days long, but most likely 12 to 18 hours long.
-Event would have sponsors, I'll have to negotiate with some companies, but I'm pretty good at working sponsorships out assuming we have enough players.
-Event would cost anywhere from $10 to $20 to get in the doors, that admission price would include basic food, and is variable until I know how many people are interested
-Server would be up over the internet before hand so people can start building characters. However, on the day of the event, new characters will start with a better ship and loadout than the usual new character startup so there is no "ship building" required on the day of the event to save time.

The minimum goal for me to even start planning would be 30 players. I know that I have at least 5 that are already interested, so I would need about 25 more. Although I would like to get 60 or more players to make it interesting. I have the server as well as the networking equipment for about 42 wired players with another 32 wireless connected players.

Just let me know what you think.

I'm truthfully appauled that there are no freelancers out there that want to go and play this game at a LANParty... There's gotta be at least a few people here from NYC...

Im afraid Wolf Demon hit the nail on the head. You probably would have got a lot more interest had you posted this a year ago but there just isn't as many of us as there used to be.

New Jersey is a long way from me ... unless there are some jump holes for free along the way.

p.s. I agree that a lot of folks have drifted on. The game did come out over a year ago. Not too many new folks finding it now, unless somebody tells them about how good it really is.

I'm afraid I'm nowhere near NJ, but it sure sounds fun!

BTW, I'm a pretty new Freelancer player and member of this site. There's still some new fans!

consider yourself lucky, usually around this time any forum dedicated to a game will either be 1) be totally dead (or like the starlancer forums here) 2)be taken away

We're lucky to have TLR and the folks who make mods. It makes a game live on. Lan or online, it can still be played with others. Or my favorite is open sp. With people like those here on TLR, it will never die down, just simmer the pot till folks get the taste for it again.

I have a group of like 5 players that are within 5 minutes of me that would play for some LANParty action. I actually have a guy out in oregon that would fly out to this event if we had enough players.
