What causes a bribe to be available?

This is not about what bribes are where.

I could not for the life of me get the Bundschuh bribe at Mainz Storage Facility (Frankfurt). Tried when their opinion of me was full red, part red, and even white (Neutral). Reloaded over 60 times in all. However, I got the bribe first time at the Bundschuh base once they were neutral.

I've seen the suggestion that a bribe isn't available to you if the faction is Hostile, but that got flamed(ish) and I don't it's true.

Here's an idea: The people who offer bribes belong to a faction. If that faction is hostile to you he/she won't offer you the bribe. Can anyone give an example which blows out or supports this idea?

Also, anyone know what faction the individual who offers the Bundschuh bribe at Mainz Storage Facility is in?

I think you are right. If the person at the station who normally would offer the bribe is a member of a faction that isn't speaking to you at the moment, the icon over their head will be an empty balloon instead of a dollar sign.

Well ... I once was flying out of a Red Hessian base which was neutral, but on the negative side. I'd been flying against the Corsairs, trying to get them friendly. After about the fifth flight, I was returning with the cargo I'd tractored in. Some moron Hessian ordered me to drop it just as I was docking with his base. I ignored him and continued in. As I entered the base, he said "Have it your way" and everything turned hostile. So there I was inside a now very hostile base! But sure enough, I was able to bribe the bartender into hacking my rep with them.

So who knows???

One time, in order to get a specific faction bribe, i had to bribe another faction first, then I was able to get the one I needed.

I've also seen members of one faction able to bribe others (like a Zoner bartender hooking you up with a couple of now friendly outcasts) so I think the possibilities of getting bribes really depends on what station you're on and who else is there. Besides, the old fashioned way is much more fun, killing a hell of a lot of police until they like you. --- VH16
