About weapon energy usage

I don't know if this has been discussed a lot but how do you actually know how much your weapons take energy and how fast the energy bar reaches zero if you shoot continously? There are numbers but those are just numbers.

It depends on you power supply you have on your ship. The more powerful, the slower the drain.

Yes, that is true but is the energy supply told somewhere? I have Eagle.

I think I see where he is going with this.

We know there are numbers that indicate the energy usage of each weapon. Is there a number somewhere that indicates what the total energy output and recharge rate of each ship is?

If we had those numbers, then we could calculate the energy drain time for a certain set of weapons on a certain type of ship. This could be very handy when deciding which set of weapons to equip.

Anyone know if those figures are available?

Yes. In your equipment folder there's an ini called misc_equip. This ini contains the power plants for your ships. Each power plant has capacity and charge rates that tell you how much power is available for weapons and for thrusters. You can find out what type power plant you have by looking at your ship's loadout in the ships folder. I believe the eagle is ge_elite2 or ge_fighter5 or 6. Can't remember which.

@WapCaplet, you got my point exactly. If we know those rates we can calculate how many seconds we can continuously shoot before power drops to zero. Those numbers for energy usage doesn't help much if we cant relate them to something concrete. It's really strange that they didn't include energy supply information for each ship.

@kaegogi, I found the file but didn't find any numbers there. Maybe I need some other proggie for opening them than notebad?

i think its if you have more energy the more you shoot

@jallajollo: When you bought your Eagle this is what it came with (its package)
[Good
nickname = gf6_package
category = ship
hull = gf6_hull
addon = ge_gf6_engine_01, internal, 1
addon = ge_fighter6_power01, internal, 1
addon = ge_s_scanner_01, internal, 1
addon = ge_s_tractor_01, internal, 1
addon = shield01_mark07_hf, HpShield01, 1
(I took out the lights)

This is the power plant for the Eagle:
[Power
nickname = ge_fighter6_power01
ids_name = 263709
ids_info = 264709
volume = 0.000000
mass = 10
DA_archetype = equipment\models\hardware\li_fusion_reactor.3db
material_library = equipment\models\hardware.mat
capacity = 10400
charge_rate = 1040
thrust_capacity = 1000
thrust_charge_rate = 100

lootable = false

@kaegogi, how do you read those values there? You must be using some program that can read well those ini files. Notepad shows them like this "Power nickname ids_name ids_info volume mass DA_archetype material_library capacity charge_rate thrust_capacity thrust_charge_rate", no values.

You need the TLR decoder ring. You have to write a 4000 word essay to Chips entitled "Why I'll Never Ask For a Cloaking Device". Once you say the Freelancer "Oath of No Flames" he'll send it to you.

Joke. (and a bad one at that) You need to download and run SDK. Look in the EOA forum about 12 or so down from this one. That will decompile all your ini files and fix some bugs.

Edit = Well, it actually installs decompiled inis. It doesn't decompile the ones you already have.

Remember that the charge_rate value is per second, so you might think that you can support 3 Diamonbacks because they take a total of only about 900 energy per shot, but remember that they fire twice a second so your energy would drop
